March 26, 1931 - May 13, 2021
Tribute
It is with profound sadness for the family of Sheila Gorrie to announce her passing. She passed away peacefully in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital with family by her side on May 13th, 2021 at the age of 90 years. Sheila was an extraordinary woman. Born in Kirkaldy Fife Scotland March 26th, 1931, she came to Canada in 1959 and worked as a nanny in Hamilton Ontario before making her way to B.C. Once here she worked as a server and soon met and married Gordon Thomas Gorrie. They were blessed with three children together, two daughters and one son. Sheila was very involved in the community of Cranbrook B.C where she lived for 54 years. She volunteered for organizations such as the Cancer Society, The United Church Cellar, The Green Home, with schools helping teach English at the college and cooking with the elementary school children. She sang in the Church and community choirs and donated to many charities. Sheila was very active and had so many amazing close friends in her life. She enjoyed swimming; walked to and from the pool for many years and downtown to the shops. She enjoyed long walks around Elizabeth Lake, spending time admiring wildlife with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Sheila was the most wonderful, loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother one could ask for, we will all miss her presence immensely.
Sheila is survived by her three children, daughter Heather (Brent) Dewar, son Neil (Joanna) Gorrie, daughter Lynn (Darcy) Andrietz; six grandchildren Jeremy (Jaime), Melissa (Luke), Nicole, Krystal, Tyler, William; ten great-grandchildren; brother Brian (Margaret) Methven, sister Hetty Smyth of Scotland, many nephews, nieces and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband Gordon Thomas Gorrie, her parents James Methven and Harriet Methven.
Those wishing to remember Sheila may do so with donations to a charity of their choosing.
“In life, we loved you dearly,
in death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place,
no one else will ever fill.”

I am so sorry to hear that Sheila has passed. We’ve all known her since she came to Canada, and always cared for her. Our parents thought a lot of her. We all would speak of her beautiful smile, her kindness, and her energy! Condolences and hugs to all of you. The Wodyga Family.

I loved aunty Sheila’s visits back to Scotland to see the family when we were kids. She would bring presents that seemed so exotic. I enjoyed visiting Sheila & uncle Tam when I left school. She took me swimming and walking and to Grasmere to meet relatives and her baking was the best. She spoke with my mum every Sunday and I would hear all about the Canada clan and how everybody was doing. Aunty Sheila was always busy, active and positive. That’s how I will always remember her. Love to all the family at this time.

I remember Aunty Sheila’s visits to Scotland when I was much younger with great fondness, and always enjoyed chatting to her when we caught up occasionally on the phone. She was always warm, wise and great fun. Sending love and best wishes to all the family, Rosalind xxxx
