Mary Georgina Smith (Clemons)

May 13, 1924 - December 14, 2023

Tribute

Mary Georgina Smith (Clemons) passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2023, in Cranbrook, BC. She was ninety-nine years of age. Mary was born on May 13, 1924, in St. Peters, Manitoba, to parents Luke and Katherine Clemons (Anderson). She was the youngest of her three siblings, Helen, Edward, and Sophia.

In her earlier years, Mary enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren Jennifer and Jasmin, and quilting with the local women of Moyie. She loved to travel, go camping, garden, and go bird hunting with Jim and her son Dan. In her later years, Mary enjoyed more time attending church services on Sundays and spending time with friends and family. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a very devoted friend and a vital part of her local community.

Mary is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 72 years, James Smith. She also leaves behind her son, Dan (Susan) Smith; granddaughters, Jennifer (Chad) Storteboom and Jasmin (Fernando) Arteaga; great-grandchildren, Adrian Storteboom and Lily Arteaga; niece Anne Clemons; great nieces, Cindy (Neil) Whieldon and Sheri Clemons; great great nephew, Evan Chan; and great great niece, Leya Chan.

Mary always lived with compassion, kindness, and integrity. She lived life to the fullest. A life to be remembered and cherished. A life to be honoured. Mary never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She accepted everyone and loved them all.

A memorial service for family and friends will take place on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cranbrook Fellowship Baptist Church (2000 5th Street N, Cranbrook, BC). An interment will take place for close family members at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Joseph’s Creek Care Village (especially the St. Mary’s ward) in Cranbrook, BC, for all of the support and care shown to both Mary and Jim during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
