Joyce Sadie Shortt (Neufeld)

June 20, 1941 - March 1, 2022

Tribute

Joyce began her life journey on June 20, 1941 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.  Her journey peacefully ended on March 1, 2022 at the age of 80, after a courageous battle with heart disease.  She was surrounded by her loving husband, Alvin of 59 years and her 3 children, Jason (Janet) Shortt of Surrey, BC, Holly (Todd) Bergstrom of Kelowna, BC and Leon (Dawn) Shortt of Delta, BC  She will be forever missed by her 4 grandchildren Alex Lassaline, Ella Shortt, Charlotte Shortt and Natalie Shortt, who have cherished memories of their Grandmother.   Joyce was an amazing cook and baker, unfailingly making her children’s favorites each and every time they visited.  The fond memories made around the dinner table inevitably will remain in their hearts.

Joyce was very much loved by friends, neighbors and all who were fortunate to know her.  She was always happy to share her famous buns, cooking, pies and preserves with anyone who entered their home.

Alvin and Joyce moved from Saskatoon to Cranbrook in 1978.  They owned and operated the Travellers Motel for 12 years, retired to an acreage where they resided for 29 years and finally settled in Willowbrook Estates.

Our family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and other staff of the Cranbrook hospital who provided our wife/mother with outstanding care, warmth and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Joyce and Alvin’s friendship over the years meant so much. We met years ago in Saskatoon when we were neighbours, and were able to keep in touch even though, they moved to BC, and the miles separated us. Looked forward to Joyce’s emails and always enjoyed our chats on the phone. I will miss her greatly. Alvin and family, you will be in my thoughts.
