Earl Mervyn Banman

July 29, 1949 - September 2, 2023

Tribute

It is with much sadness that the family of Earl Mervyn Banman announce his passing on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Earl was born on July 29, 1949. He grew up in Kimberley (Meadowbrook) and graduated from Selkirk Secondary School.  He went on to work for the City of Cranbrook in the Engineering Department for 38 years until his retirement in 2009.

He learned to play the guitar at 8-years-old, and was a well-known local musician who played bass guitar in many bands over the years.  He joined his first band when he was still in high school.

He also loved all things cars and trucks, and spent many hours restoring his 1949 Ford truck which was completed before his death.

He dearly loved his wife Patti; his daughter Janna Gnyp (Kelly); his son John (Shirley); his grandchildren, Mackenzie Gnyp, Jaden Gnyp and Kaleb Banman; and three great-grandchildren, Drake, Lily and Scarlett.

Also surviving are two brothers, Lloyd Banman (Janet); Cliff Banman (Ruth); one sister, Esther Walker (Russ); his stepsons, Donny & Michael Paige; and his second wife, Judith.

He was predeceased by his first wife Judy, in 1970, and his parents, Henry and Diane Banman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Foundation.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Earl’s passing, I have fond memories of him as a child when he played in my Dad’s band and later in life when he became friends with my husband. He was always so full of happiness whenever I saw him. My condolences to his family and friends.

It,was a shock to see this, Earl was a wonderful musician! I knew his brother Cliff and sister Esther as they are closer in age but had the pleasure of listening to Earls music with the various bands he played with. Sincere condolences to you all!
