Bruce Emanuel Rabuck

October 3, 1932 - October 16, 2013

Tribute

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 16, 2013, Bruce Emanual Rabuck passed away at home with his family by his side.  Bruce was born on October 3, 1932 in Coon Rapids, Iowa to Earl and Lena Rabuck.

Bruce graduated from high school in 1950 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree at York College in York, Nebraska.  He was accepted to medical school at the University of Iowa.  Bruce was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in his 3rd year of medical school and then Commissioned 1st Lieutenant in his 4th year of Medical School.  He was Commissioned Captain upon graduation and continued his internship at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Bruce spent the next 4 years in the US Army Medical Core.  After completing his obligation to the US Army, Bruce set up a medical practice in St. Marie's, Idaho.  After several years practicing medicine in Idaho, he joined the Associate Clinic in Cranbrook, BC.

Bruce was an active member of the Cranbrook Alliance Church as a Sunday school teacher, an elder, director of Christian Education, head of Missions Committee and Christian counselling.  He counselled at the church for several years while still practicing medicine at the clinic.  During this time, Bruce joined with two other school teachers and the Sr. Pastor to teach lay people to counsel – this course was accredited by Regina Bible College.

Since retiring, Bruce has concentrated on golfing and travelling to see family.  He was diagnosed with Lymphoma in January of 2013.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Donna Rabuck, daughters Barbara (Chris) Moggey; Linda (Jack) Chisholm, Laurie (Ted) Gelech, son Eric (Jackie) Dye and daughters-in-law Julia Rabuck and Rhonda (Mike) Rabuck-Giesbrecht.  He is also survived by 22 loving grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  Bruce has left a legacy for all his grandchildren by writing a book called “Life” to give to them.  He is predeceased in death by two sons – Roger and Richard Rabuck.

A Celebration of Bruce's Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Cranbrook Alliance Church at 1:00 pm.  Memorial donations may be made to Interior Health Authority, Community & Home Services, Palliative Care, 20 – 23rd Ave. S., Cranbrook, BC  V1C 5V1.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com

It is hard to accept when one we knew and loved leaves this earth, yet I know in my heart, he is in a better place with his Lord and also surrounded by loved ones who have gone before him. He will be greatly missed as he was a wonderdful man of God.

From: Greg Smith
Relation: My Uncle

The girls and I were sorry to hear that Uncle Bruce had passed but also so glad to know that he’s in heaven and his pain here is over. I’ll miss golfing with him and the many funny moments we had camping, fishing and just hanging out. We love everyone and we’ll see you all soon. Love Greg, Mikaela, Taylor and Gabby.

From: Joan & Randy Lewis
Relation: Uncle

It is hard to believe that Uncle Bruce is gone but yet we know in our hearts he is in a much better place and at home with Jesus whom I know welcomed him with open arms as well as the rest of his friends and family that have gone before him. He was an amazing man of God and we will never forget him and his smile.

From: Ron Lewis
Relation: Cousin to wife, Donna Jean

Dear Cousin Donna Jean and Family:

This is not exactly the best time to reacquaint ourselves with our family but we have lost touch with so many of our close relatives over the years. It was through Cousin Carol that we first learned of Bruce’s illness. And that, only a couple (2) weeks ago.

May God continue to bless your family as they gather to remember their Father, Grandfather , Great-Great Grandfather and husband.

After learning that Dr. Bruce was ill it is so shocking to hear of his demise so soon thereafter.

Hopefully, Donna Jean you and your family will adjust to this loss soon. Yours, is a very large family – with his side having great-great grandchildren.

A remarkable life – over too soon perhaps, but apparently with many years of satisfaction.

Yes, we are sorry to hear about this event but pleased the end came without too much distress for the Doctor or his family.

We will be remembering you and the family as you continue to keep your family in repair for their future.

Dear Family,
I know that this is a hard time for all of you–but also, a time of relief and blessing. Bruce wanted to live a quality life and had no hope of that after this last treatment. I know that Jesus had His arms open for Bruce as he entered heaven’s gates. Bruce was ready and unafraid to die, knowing what he had to look forward to. I know all of you will surround Donna with your love and devotion. It was what Bruce worried about most–Donna will be fine with your help and support. I will keep you all in my prayers as you go to the service tomorrow. I know that it will be a beautiful service and have deep meaning for all of you. I love you all. I will be back to see you in the spring.

From: Bruce Eric Larson
Relation: nephew

Donna and Family,
May and I were sorry to hear about Uncle Bruce. We will miss his annual visits to Fresno and Santa Cruz. It was fun hearing him talk about his experiences as he went through his golfing circuit. I valued his free medical advice greatly. It saddens me deeply that I could not travel up to Canada to see him. I will forever cherish the good memories I have of him. Fishing with him, and having him show us around parts of Canada are two of my best family memories.
Love,
Bruce and May

From: Julie Begg
Relation: Friend of Gelech's & Chisholm's

I am so sorry to hear about Bruce. He was a wonderful man. You are lucky to have such a close-knit family full of love and support, especially during this difficult time. I wish I could be there in person, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Gelech, Chisholm and Rabuck family. Love Julie (Shaun, Ryder and Jordan)
