Violet Grace Berg (Kanten)

August 21, 1925 - April 26, 2019

Tribute

VIOLET GRACE BERG passed away on April 26, 2019 at the age of 93, at the F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, British Columbia.

Violet was born on August 21, 1925 in Oxbow, Saskatchewan (SK) to Pearl and Elmer Kanten.  She was the second eldest child of six.  She grew up on the family farm near Lisieux, SK and attended a country school nearby.  She moved to Regina, SK and worked for Sears.

On June 7, 1947 she married John Karl Berg and they farmed the Berg homestead near Central Butte, SK where they raised four children.  After they sold the farm in 1967, they moved to Central Butte.  Violet worked at the post office and John worked for the Co-op.  They also did janitor work for the local credit union.

In 1974 they moved to the Chilliwack BC area.  There John worked for Fraser Valley Foods and Violet worked for the Vedder Crossing post office near the Canadian Forces base until 1986 when she retired.

After retirement she became very active in the Senior’s Association near Twin Rinks in Vedder Crossing.  Her final move was to Cranbrook, to be closer to family.

Violet enjoyed watching the Blue Jays play and was a fan of Jose Batista.  She also enjoyed watching curling and listening to “real” country music, Alan Jackson being her favourite.

Family will always remember that 24 hour salad in the gold rimmed, etched bowl that she would bring to family dinners.  The grandkids always enjoyed her peanut butter squares.

Violet was pre-deceased by her parents Elmer and Pearl Kanten, husband John, siblings Ruby Panzer, Carmen, Ray, Eunice Bjornson and Marlene Nicholson.

Violet is survived by her four children John (Pat), Brenda (Mark) Buller, Wade and Kelly; nine grandchildren Cheryl (Wade) Simmons, Greg (Tanya) Berg, Sean (Kim) Buller, Darren (Andrea) Buller, Kristopher Buller, Terry Berg, Shannon (Trevor) Russel, Derrick (Jolene) Berg and Krystal Berg; and 10 great-grandchildren Bailey Gosselin, Jayden and Heather Berg, Jonathan and Victoria Buller, Abigail Buller, Vance, Kane and Maisie Berg and Bentley Berg.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
