It is with great sadness that the family of Ursula (“Ursel”) Platz announces her passing on Monday November 20, 2017 at the age of 87.
Ursula was born in Germany on August 9, 1930. In her mid twenties Ursula ventured to South Africa where she met and married her husband Alfred in 1958. In 1964 Ursula and Alfred moved to Canada with their three young children, finally settling in Cranbrook in 1966.
Ursula will be greatly missed by her many friends. Ursula was an active member of the East Kootenay German Canadian Club. Ursula had many fond memories skiing at the Kimberley Ski Resort and golfing at Mission Hills.
Ursula is survived by her husband Alfred, her sons Klaus and Rudolf (Diane), her daughter Gudrun (Peter) Seredynski, her grandchildren Antony, Alexander (MirandaLee), Andreas, Amanda and Anita, her brother Hans (Joan) Rehrmann, nephews Norman (Paula) Rehrmann, Robert (Rebekah) Rehrmann, Tony (Caroline) Rehrmann, Erik (Jeremy) Rehrmann and their families.
Ursula was predeceased by her parents Maria (Schmidt) and Anton Rehrmann, her brother Franz Rehrmann and her sister-in-law Cuza Rehrmann.
Ursula’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Scheibenstock and the third floor nursing staff at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for the exceptional care provided to Ursula.
A celebration of Ursula’s life will take place at a later date. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Ursula’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Fund of B.C.

Dear Alfred
I was so sorry to hear of Ursula’s passing. Seems like yesterday Rudolf and Eric were German Club classmates and ski buddies. Those were such wonderful years. Ursula will be sadly missed, she was such a life-filled woman. Me and my family’s condolences.

From: Elaine and Chuck Buckley
Relation: Friend
Although I met Ursula fairly late in her life, we became dear friends. Her joy of living and kind nature set her apart from many; we felt like kindred spirits and our visits flew by, as we talked of so many things. Her deep love for her family and for her life in Canada were obvious to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Chuck and I send our deepest sympathy to her family during this difficult time. God bless you Ursula, and may you rest In peace.
From: Michaela McLelland (nee Daum)
Relation: My parents, Michael and Herta Daum from Krugersdorp, South Africa, were friends to Ursual and Alfred Platz.
Hi, our family in South African knew Ursula and Alfred Platz and played with their son Klaus. I am Michaela Daum, daughter of Michael and Herta Daum. We lived in Krugersdorp, South Africa. I often wondered what happened to the Platz family. Michael and Herta Daum have both passed (2002 and 2009 respectively). I could not remember the surname but recently found it going through some old documents. If Alfred or Klaus want to get in touch with me for old times sake, would be nice. I often remember Tante Ursula cutting our hair when we were very small. I was about 5 years old when they left South Africa. I think she worked in a hair salon in Westonaria.
