Tribute

Ernest Eugene White and Shirley Gladys White, devoted partners in life and marriage, leave behind a shared legacy built on dedication, service, and a steadfast commitment to family and community. Married on January 18, 1956, Ernest and Shirley spent decades supporting one another through varied careers, family life, and deep involvement in the lives of those around them.

Shirley, born in Calgary on February 24, 1935, dedicated much of her life to administrative work, serving as an office assistant and office manager from 1960 until her retirement in 2000. Known for her professionalism and reliability, she became a trusted presence in every workplace she joined. Beyond her career, Shirley was an active member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club from 1960 to 1998, holding positions including provincial and maternal president. Through this work she promoted opportunities for women and played a significant role in advancing women’s rights in her community. She was particularly dedicated to advocating for abused and displaced women, contributing to the development of safe homes and supporting civil rights efforts that helped countless individuals find safety and stability.

Ernest, born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on January 29, 1933, lived a life characterized by hard work and adaptability. His career path spanned several fields: he worked as a crane operator, later became a butcher and grocery store owner, and in the late 1990s transitioned into work as a Teamster horse logger. No matter the role, Ernest approached his work with determination and consistency. He also took pride in everyday routines and responsibilities, finding purpose in even the simplest daily tasks. Over the years, Ernest and Shirley opened their home to many nieces and nephews, offering support and stability that extended far beyond their immediate family.

Together, Ernest and Shirley raised two children—Michael and Joann,—and created a home marked by encouragement, structure, and a strong sense of care. Their household became a place where family gathered, young relatives found direction, and the values of dedication and responsibility were woven into everyday life.

Both Ernest and Shirley will be remembered for their quiet perseverance, their commitment to the well-being of others, and their many decades of service to their community. Their lives reflect a partnership rooted in hard work, compassion, and the shared desire to help those around them. Their legacy continues through the countless individuals touched by their guidance, generosity, and steady presence.

They will be lovingly remembered by many, including their grandson Dylan and combined 27 nieces and nephews, 50 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 41 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews whose lives were touched by their guidance, warmth, and enduring presence.
