Ruby Maud Nixon

April 14, 1925 - April 16, 2012

Tribute

On the evening of Monday, April 16, 2012, RUBY MAUD NIXON passed away peacefully with family by her side at the age of 87 years. Ruby was born on April 14, 1925 on the Isle of Wight to Samuel and Chrissi Barton.

Ruby met and later married David C. Nixon on July 4, 1945 on the Isle of Wight. As many of the war brides of the time, Ruby came to Canada by herself in 1946 to join her husband. She landed in Halifax, rode the train to Golden and then onto reunite with David in Wilmer, where she lived for 66 years.

Ruby loved her fish and chips and could tell you where she thought the best spot in town was to have them. First and foremost, she loved her family. What she did was all about them. She was a feisty and independent woman and she was very proud to be British.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memory four children; Audrey (Harry) Bearham and daughter Elizabeth (Kevin); Raymond Nixon and children Jarrett and Jessica, and their mother Cynthia Appleby, Joyce Nixon and Pam Nielsen and children Justin (Charity), Nissa (Scott) and Whitney and their father Larry Nielsen. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren; Declan, Shawn, Krista, Grace, Gabryle, Morrison, Brooklynne, and Presley the dog. Ruby is survived by one brother George, one sister June in England and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruby was predeceased by her parents, husband David C. Nixon, Grandson Jeffrey Miles, Granddaugher Cola Marie, and Aunts and Uncles.

A family graveside service has been held at Mount View Cemetery in Invermere. A Celebration of Ruby”s Life will be held at the Invermere Branch #71 Legion Hall on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Please come and join us to remember a life well lived.

Mark Memorial Funeral Services Staff send our condolences to family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

From: Lorna Jackson (nee Shannon of Kimberley)
Relation: Friends of Dave and Ruby Nixon

Deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear Mother on behalf of our family with love and prayers for all of you.
My parents, Charlie and Dorothy Shannon formerly of Kimberley were friends of your Mom and Dad. My husband, Fred, and I, had taken my Mom up to visit your Mother, she was a dear sweet lady and will be missed by all of us.

From: Lisa Dowsett
Relation: Great-Aunt

I had the pleasure of meeting your mother back I guess it would have been 1980 or 81, while visiting with my mother Linda Nixon. I was just a girl of 15 and found your mother to be a delightful woman, she read my teacup and was more than happy to fill in some blanks for us and our family history, as your dad was my grandfather’s brother and they of course knew my grandmother and the situation and were very very gracious and welcoming to us. I’m sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing, but glad to hear of her life well lived. She was a lovely, lively woman and I enjoyed very much the short time we spent with your family.
