Tribute
Mrs. Rhona “Nonie” Soden (MacLanders) of Kimberley, BC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the age of 91 years. She is predeceased by her loving husband, John “Jack” after 62 1/2 years of marriage and daughter Linda. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters; Leslee and Wayne Paquette of Chestermere, AB and Brenda and Karsten Oslie of Riondel, BC; six grandchildren and one great grandchild as well as nieces and nephews.
Nonie was a true “Kootenay girl” being born in Sandon, BC in 1919 when it was a boom town. She moved to Nelson to attend high school and worked in Toronto and Cranbrook before she married and moved to Kimberley. In her earlier days, Nonie enjoyed teaching Sunday school and skiing. She also enjoyed bowling, knitting, playing the piano/organ, huckleberry picking, camping and fishing. She was a great baker/cook and always enjoyed trying new recipes and perfecting old family favourites!
The family would like to thank Dr. Clay and the staff of The Pines (Kimberley Special Care Home). There will be no funeral service by Mrs. Soden”s request. Those wishing to remember Nonie may do so with donations to The Kimberley Special Care Home (The Pines), 386 – 2nd Avenue, Kimberley, BC V1A 2Z8.
