Randy William Gayder
February 1, 1956 - May 16, 2026
Tribute
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Randy “Mouse” Gayder on May 16, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.
Over the past five years, Randy faced many health challenges, but through it all he remained one of the finest men anyone could know. He maintained his sense of humor, kindness, and positive attitude right to the very end.
Randy was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, in 1956 and, true to his wandering spirit, made his way across Canada throughout his life. A skilled carpet layer by trade, he worked for a time in Fort McMurray before moving to Calgary, where he was employed by Canada Post. Randy and his wife, Pat, later moved to Cape Breton, where he continued his career with Canada Post until his retirement in 2012. Never one to stay in one place for too long, Randy and Pat eventually made their way west once again, with a layover in Kimberley before settling comfortably in Cranbrook, British Columbia, where they remained until his passing.
Randy loved keeping busy. Whether he was building, repairing, or tinkering with something, he took pride in working with his hands. He was also a talented artist with a creative spirit. In his quieter moments, Randy could often be found listening to his favorite vinyl records and CDs, spending time on the water fishing, or sharing stories and laughs with those he loved.
Randy will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Patricia; his son, Chase, of Carbon, Alberta; his daughter, Lacy-Jo (Keith), of Edmonton, Alberta; and his cherished grandchildren, Titus and April. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Janice (Chris), Debbie (Jim), and Cheryl (Dan), along with their children and extended families.
Randy valued friendship deeply and was fortunate to have many lifelong friends who meant the world to him. Among them were Marty and Kathy Brisbois and the Brisbois family; Shawn Elvis; Frank and Cathy Clifford; Mark and Beth Clifford; David Pothier and the Pothier family; Ray Holden; Luke Daye; Vic Doucette; Coke; Ritchie and Edith and the Jubalee family; his Canada Post co-workers, Kathy Kopecuk, Ed Cox, and Jim Beale; and his cousin, Maemie. He was especially close to his dear friend “Big Mike,” who predeceased him.
Randy was predeceased by his parents, Patricia and Bill Gayder; his stepdaughter, Lesley Ann; and his dear friend, “Big Mike.”
In keeping with Randy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held later this summer, most likely outdoors at his favourite fishing spot.
“Randy is now on his Star Trek voyage.”
