Peter Everet Johnson

June 2, 1950 - January 13, 2017

Tribute

Peter Everet Johnson was born in the Calgary General Hospital on June 2, 1950 and was raised in Okotoks, Alberta. He lived in Alberta until 2011 when he and his wife, Victoria chose Cranbrook as their new home. He is survived by his wife Victoria (Vicki) Robinson, his daughter Jessica Mary Burke-Johnson and his sister Gale Cauvin (Rob).

Peter and Victoria made their home in Cranbrook and have enjoyed becoming part of the community thru his involvement on the Board of Directors for Canadian Mental Health, as a volunteer for the SPCA and with the Senior Men’s Curling Club and the Cranbrook Golf Club.

Peter obtained an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Lethbridge and a Master’s Degree from the University of Calgary. He also completed an internship at the Sexuality Clinic in Edmonton and became Vice President of the Calgary Sexual Assault centre in Calgary.  He studied Clinical Psychology in Australia and was a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists until his retirement in 2005. His working career was varied and rich including being a full time volunteer at a mental hospital in Edmonton, Supervisor of the same unit, oil rig worker, child welfare worker, counsellor, Vice President of Bow Valley College, running a half-way house, and his final role as a professor teaching Psychology, Social Welfare and Abnormal Psychology to nursing students at both Bow Valley College in Calgary and The University of the Rockies in Cranbrook.  This was a real highlight in his career.

Peter loved to travel; from hitchhiking around Alberta as a boy to covering over 70 countries as an adult.  He and his beloved wife, Vicki, loved to travel and visited numerous countries in Asia and Africa and travelled in the RV throughout the United States and Western Canada. Peter never stopped experiencing the world and its people and making friends wherever he went.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) or the SPCA, both in Cranbrook.

A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Cranbrook Curling Club, 1777 – 2nd St. N., Cranbrook.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com.
