Oryas Lydia Myrtle Fahselt
July 5, 1921 - May 28, 2011
Tribute
Oryas passed away peacefully at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC on the morning of Saturday, May 28th. She was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on July 5, 1921. It was while in school there that she met her husband, Herbert Fahselt. In 1943, they were married in Vancouver and after the war moved back to Saskatchewan. They lived in Swift Current until 1962 when she and Herb moved with their 4 children to Wardner, BC. She always kept her Saskatchewan farm girl roots and one of her favourite things to do was tend her garden. Oryas loved to grow her vegetables and know she was harvesting what she could make good use of for her family. Oryas was a very social person and enjoyed her crafts and baking. Her first love, without a doubt, was her love for her family. They were always first and foremost in her life. Oryas and Herb enjoyed being snowbirds and ventured to Arizona to enjoy many winters. Oryas moved to Cranbrook in 2005 while Herb was in a Care Facility until his passing in 2006. She has resided at Joseph Creek for the past 1-1/2 years. She loved her independent life at Joseph Creek and truly enjoyed getting to know her new friends there. She volunteered many hours there taking pleasure in helping with bingo.
Oryas leaves four children to mourn her passing; Janice (Fred) LIghtburn, Maxine (Wayne) Johnson, Richard (Evelyne) Fahselt and Brian (Sheryl) Fahselt, her eight grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren as well as her sister-in-law, Helen McKenzie, Lethbridge, AB and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Herb in 2006.
A Celebration of Oryas” life will be held at the Jaffray Community Hall on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2 pm with Pastor Bill Plant officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Oryas” memory to the Jaffray United Church c/o Dorothy Durham, General Delivery, Jaffray, BC V0B 1T0.
