The family of Nora Leanne Houlind announce with great sadness the passing of Leanne on Sunday, February 20, 2011 in Cranbrook, BC at the age of 56 years.
Leanne was born in Penticton, BC on November 9, 1954 and was raised in the West Kootenay Boundary country. She worked at various jobs over the years but especially loved her work with the casinos. She worked for a casino in Prince George which eventually led her to take a job in Cranbrook with the St. Eugene Resort and Casino when it opened. Not only did she work in the casino but she loved playing in them as well. She took many trips to Las Vegas and Reno to enjoy the casinos there. Leanne also liked long haul trucking with her brothers as well as a day of fishing as an enjoyable past time. Most of all she truly cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Leanne is survived by her children: her son, Tristan Hanssens of Abbotsford; her daughter, Troye Hannsens of Salt Spring Island and three brothers; Ken (Ronda), Murray, Blaine (Margarita) all of Cranbrook. She also leaves to mourn her passing many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Leanne was predeceased by her father Eric in 1977 and her mother Shirley in 1990.
At Leanne”s request, there will be no funeral service. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be left in her memory to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health, 13 – 24th Ave. N., Cranbrook, BC V1C 3H9; or the Cranbrook Hospice Society, 1700 – 4th St. S., Cranbrook, BC V1C 6E1 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 19 – 9th Ave. S., Cranbrook, BC V1C 2L9.

We were shocked and saddened to read about Leanne’s passing. We feel fortunate that we had reconnected with her in recent years. We looked forward to seeing her at St Eugene and enjoyed getting the latest updates on her family.Our last meetings were full of laughter and we will always remember her laughing and smiling. We have fond memories of dancing and partying in the old Invermere house. Leanne cooking giblets for us and keeping Murray and Blaine in line. We are unaware of what caused her death but hope that she did not suffer.Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family and we hope to be able to see them in the near future. Tristan & Family….We were so saddened to receive the news of the loss of your mom. We have a lot of great “van” and “on the road” memories from travelling & working with Leanne in past years. More recently it was always great to talk to her ( mostly at the casino) and get updates of what she was up to ,whether it was planning a trucking trip with her bro or just kicking back. She was always so proud to update me on what you & your sister’s lives. I send my deepest condolences. You have suffered a great loss.
