Tribute

It is with great sadness, the family of Nancy Caroline Smith (nee Quipp), of Cranbrook, BC, announce her passing on July 3rd , 2024 at her home at Kootenay Street Village.

Nancy was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 23rd, 1940. She went to high school at Weston Collegiate High School. Nancy married the love of her life, Donald E. Smith in June of 1959 and happily became a devoted Military wife and mother. Mom & Dad lived on various Military bases but spent most of their married years in Cold Lake, Ottawa, and Edmonton. Once Dad retired, they moved to Calgary and finally Cranbrook.

Nancy had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. She loved reading, doing puzzles (jigsaw, crosswords, sudoku, etc.), playing cards, and spending time with her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching sports but especially loved CFL football, the Toronto Blue Jays and the NHL. She was generous, loyal, and brave. She will be remembered for all the love (and $5.00 bills) she shared
with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Nancy is survived by her children, Helen Field of Courtney, BC, Barbara Pedersen of Cranbrook, BC and David (Cynthia) of Marysville, BC. She is survived by her grandchildren & great-grandchildren, Jonathan (Ashley) Pedersen and their children Javan & Nathaniel, John (Briana) Field and his children Izzabella, Kandice, Marcus and his step-son Levi, Jeremy (My Le) Pedersen and their daughter Alaya, Chelsea (Kealan) Field, Daniel (Kesha) Pedersen and their son Lincoln, Jesse (Amanda) Pedersen; their children Luca and Jackson, Lindsay Smith, Ryan (Mikaela) Smith. She is also survived by her loving sisters Ginna Snow (Toronto) and Susan Quipp (Victoria).  She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents Mildred and Taylor Quipp, her son-in-law Mark Field, her in-laws Herb & Mary Smith, and her brothers-in-
law Herbie & Norman Smith.

A small private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation.  The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Kootenay Street Village.

I thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.
I think of you in silence,
I often speak your name.
All I have are memories,
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory’s my keepsake.
With which I’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping,
I have you in my heart.
