Mabel Ruby Zueger (Stephan)

Tribute
Mabel Zueger, born on March 8, 1926, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, peacefully passed away at the age of 98 on June 14, 2024. As the middle child of 11, she moved across the west with her family due to her father’s railway job, eventually settling in Vancouver. Mabel proudly served in the Canadian Women Army Corps during WWII, alongside four of her brothers. After the war, she returned to Vancouver and worked in the hospitality industry.
In 1968, Mabel moved to Kimberley, continuing her career in hospitality and dedicating time to volunteering. She served as President of the Kimberley Hospitality Auxiliary as well as starting the thrift store in Marysville. She ran food services for the Kimberley International Old-time Accordion Festival. She was a founding member of the Kimberley Country Fair as well as president of the Sr. Dynamiters Booster Club, running the Marysville arena concession throughout the winter. Her passions included hockey, cooking, baking and gardening, which she enjoyed with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mabel is predeceased by her husband, Julius. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Roberts (Don) and Sharon Zueger; grandchildren, Stephanie and David (Jami-Lynn); and great-grandchildren, Travis, Colton and Brett. As per her request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cranbrook Legion Branch #24.
