Lowell Carman Skjonsby
May 17, 1946 – February 2, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lowell Skjonsby announce his sudden passing on February 2, 2026, at the age of 79.
Lowell was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan, on May 17, 1946. In his younger years, he loved playing pool and was considered a real pool shark. He was really into MOPAR and muscle cars, and of course, he loved his Budweiser. He will be remembered for his compassion, devotion to his family, and generosity—always willing to help anyone and expecting nothing in return.
Lowell spent most of his adult life in the Cranbrook area, making friends everywhere he went. He adored his three sons, Chayne, Sean, and Chris, who blessed him with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Lowell was well known as the guy to go to for any moving questions. He spent a large part of his life (1977–2011) “running the show” at Williams Moving and Storage, where his fellow workmates became like family to him. After retiring, he helped his wife with the canning business, “Abbey’s Best,” which she owned with her mother, Lorraine.
His annual trips to the Merritt Music Fest with his wife Wendy always brought him joy, as did the summers they spent in Rexford, Montana, with family and friends. Their time there was cut short when Wendy required full-time care due to dementia. Lowell’s love and dedication to her were unwavering—he visited her every single day for years, even when her illness had progressed. Wendy passed away on December 4, only two months before Lowell.
He is survived by his two sons, Chayne and Chris; his five grandchildren, Ashley, Paige, Amber, Leo, and Gwyn; and his four great-grandchildren, Melody, Layton, Daxton, and Alexsis. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Lindsay (Cody) and Tommy (Danika), and their children, Lenny, Luna, Thomias, Dagger, and Archer; his sister Lynn (Jim) in Australia; Carol Scarf, and his brother-in-law Don (Tania) Abbey.
The family would also like to acknowledge his “adopted-by-choice” granddaughter, Kim Munro, and her spouse, Brad Lundell, who helped Lowell immensely over the last few decades and went above and beyond to ensure he was well cared for. They would also like to thank neighbor Shelley Daignault for her care and compassion for both Lowell and Wendy over many decades. Lowell considered all three to be his special family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Madeline and Howard Skjonsby; his son Sean; his brother Lew; and his previous wives, Wendy Skjonsby and Darlene Skjonsby.
Lowell was a very sociable man who loved everyone. Please join us in celebrating the life he lived and the people who cared for him at his Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cranbrook Hotel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leslie Long Rescue, the Cancer Society, or a charity of your choosing
