Kathleen Cecilia Lacourciere (Anderson)

January 16, 1932 - October 17, 2023

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen Lacourciere, age 91.  Kathleen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.  She passed away on October 17th in Cranbrook, BC with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.

Kathleen Lacourciere (Anderson) was born on January 16th, 1932 to her parents Annie (Cairns) Anderson and Andrew Parker Anderson.

Kathleen was born on the family homestead in Twin Butte, Alberta.  She was the third born to two older sisters, Mary and Grace and a younger brother Philip, with whom she grew up on the farm.  At three years of age, Kathleen contracted Saint Vitus Dance (Sydenham Chorea) and became a sick little girl who couldn’t walk.  Her sister Mary would tend to help her, rubbing her arms and legs, to which she began to regain movement.  Kathleen did home-schooling and also attended Spread Eagle School.  Kathleen lived on the farm till she was a young adult and moved to Lethbridge, Alberta to attend art school.  Shortly after, Kathleen returned home to Twin Butte to finish school through correspondence.   Kathleen was a hard worker, helping her mother run and care for the farm alongside her Uncle George after her father’s passing.  Kathleen stayed to help her mother while her sisters and brother married and started their families.

On December 19th, 1969, at age thirty-seven, Kathleen moved to Creston, BC where she and her Uncle George bought a house and acreage.  Kathleen was involved in the Rod and Gun Club and Creston Valley Art Shows.  She additionally sewed and painted beautiful pictures.  She continued to look after her Uncle till his passing in 1981.

In 1982, Kathleen met and married Jerry Lacourciere on February 20 at age 50.  Jerry had two young children, Michelle (Shelly) and Norman, whom she fell in loved with.  Kathleen not only fell in love with Jerry but the little girl hiding behind her father.  Her life finally started where she could be a wife and mother, which he longed for her whole life.  Kathleen, Jerry and the children moved from Creston to Kuskanook on Kootenay Lake where they lived till 1996, and then moved to Cranbrook, where they have resided ever since.

Kathleen was a professional seamstress.  She made and did many sewing jobs for various people throughout the years, such as sewing curtains, and wedding and bridesmaid dresses.  You name it, Kathleen made it.  She loved sewing and it was a passion she lived for.  She continued to sew up into her late 80s and then stopped, given her vision made threading a needle difficult.  Kathleen also loved painting pictures, such as many beautiful paintings for herself, others and art shows.  If Kathleen did not sew or paint, you could find her outside gardening.  Her garden was a beautiful paradise, full of vibrant colors.

Kathleen was such a loving woman, never complaining and always helping everyone she could.  She was strong, never slowing down and always busy.  It wasn’t until a few years ago when Kathleen got sick and went to the hospital, that she began to slow down.  During this time, she struggled to walk and do the things she loved.  This time was difficult for Kathleen.  She moved to Kootenay Street Village alongside her husband Jerry, and they both lived there until Jerry passed on February 20, 2023, on their 40th Wedding Anniversary.  Kathleen lived there until her passing eight months later.

Kathleen was loved dearly by her family and will forever be missed and thought of by her Daughter Shelly Michelle Mayne, Son Norman Lacourciere, Granddaughters Selena Libregts and Alicia Lacourciere, Grandson Jacob Lacourciere and five great grandchildren.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry in 2023,  parents Andrew and Annie (Cairns) Anderson, and siblings Mary (Anderson) Baird, Grace (Anderson) McCarty and Philip Anderson, Uncle George Anderson and Niece Cathy Anderson.

Kathleen is survived by Michelle (Lacourciere) Mayne, Chris Mayne, Norman Lacourciere, Granddaughters Selena Libregts Mayne and Alisha Lacourciere and Grandson Jacob Lacourciere.  Nieces Silvia (Ken) McFarland, Carol (Glen) Humphreys, Lois (Don) Lockstedt Jones.  Nephews Dan (Corrine) Anderson, Ken (Colleen) Anderson, Andrew Lockstedt.  Grand nieces and nephews Sharla (McFarland) Hummel, Phil McFarland, Eric and Cam Anderson, Curtis and Travis Lambertm, Alana, Taryn and Pamela Humphreys.

The family would like to express gratitude towards the care staff at Kootenay Street Village for the loving, excellent care they gave Kathleen during her final years.  The family would also like to thank Heather from Heartfelt Companion for visiting Kathleen weekly and putting a smile on her face.  The family would further like to thank Dr. Witten for the years of caring for Kathleen.

Kathleen was dearly loved and will be missed more than words can describe.  She is now walking with Jerry and her family in Heaven, free of all burdens, able to paint, sew and garden once again.

Kathleen’s family looks forward to the day that they will meet again and be together.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Mark Memorial Community Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00 pm.  A Graveside Interment will take place at noon at Westlawn Cemetery prior to the service.

Relation: Friend

I was blessed with working on wedding/ bridal dresses with Kathleen, she was also a very good friend to my late grandmother and they attended church together. She was a very kind, compassionate person and I was blessed to know and learn from her! I only wish I had known sooner as I would have attended the service. Our entire family sends their condolences 💐
