Judith (Judy) Elaine Denny (Latta)

Tribute

Judith “Judy” Elaine Denny (nee Latta) of Cranbrook, BC passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital with her family around her after a short battle with cancer.

Born on July 29, 1943 in Nelson, BC to George Latta and Frances Latta (nee Bates of Cardston, AB) Judy was married to Michael Denny, with whom she had three children (James, Tammy and Megan) and subsequently married to Roy Palmer.

Judy spent most of her career in administrative roles in public agencies in both Saskatchewan and BC. In 1995 Judy moved to Cranbrook where she worked for a Crown Corporation as well as the Ministry of Children & Family Services prior to her retirement from the public sector.  Never one to stay still long Judy took on several post-retirement positions in the private sector for a number of years before she decided to focus on retirement in a serious way.

Judy was a talented quilter and active member of the Cranbrook quilters guild. Judy also loved gardening at home, walking her dog, Smoke, with her friends at Moyer, and spending time out at Fort Steele Heritage Park.  Judy in particularly loved children and was known as a loving, attentive grandmother not only to her biological grandchildren but also to the children she “adopted” as part of her own.

Judy leaves behind:

  • her eldest son James Denny and daughter-in-law Brandi of Peace River, her daughter Tammy Denny-Jennings of Vancouver, her daughter Megan Denny of Nelson,
  • her sister Barbra “Bonnie” Nakata,
  • her brothers William Latta, Thomas Latta and Gordon Latta
  • grandchildren Joshua Denny (and wife Krystal), Michael Springer, Shaine Denny, Maximus White, Noah Denny,
  • great-grandchild Liam Denny,
  • godsons Aaron Weaver and Brennan Weaver,
  • and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy is preceded by her parents, George and Frances Latta, her husband Michael Denny and her second husband Roy Palmer.

Judy also leaves behind may close friends who she loved spending time with whether it be at quilting or socializing over a coffee.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 am at Mark Memorial Community Funeral Home, 2024 Industrial Road No. 2, Cranbrook.  In lieu of flowers, the family will gratefully accept donations to the Cranbrook Hospice Society.

James, Tammy & Megan, please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother.
I met Judy in 1996 through the Weaver family. We enjoyed many breakfasts and dinners over the years whenever I was in town visiting. Judy was a very caring soul. In 2015 I was diagnosed with cancer and soon after Judy decided I needed a quilt. I look at it every day and think of her. I will miss our chats but have many fond memories of time spent together.

From: Susan McInnes

Megan, sending you love and hugs. I am only a text away.
