Joyce May Skow (Perron)

May 29, 1932 - January 24, 2020

Tribute

Joyce May Skow (née Perron) of Cranbrook, BC passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Joyce was born in Almonte, Lanark Co., Ontario on May 29, 1932 to Delta (nee Van Dusen) and Lionel Perron. She was raised at several sections along the Ontario Northland Railway, where her father was employed.  In 1943 the family moved to Noranda, Quebec, where Joyce was educated and worked nine years for the same railway as her father had.  She was married to Thomas Yandon in 1958.  They had two children, Wayne and Naomi. They lived in Rossport, Ontario before moving west (which had been Joyce’s childhood dream) to Sparwood in 1970. While there, Joyce wrote weekly articles for the Crowsnest Clarion and was an Avon representative.

Joyce met her second husband, Richard (Dick) Larsen Skow, in Sparwood and they were married in Cranbrook on June 25, 1977. Joyce worked for the Federal Government at the Canada Employment Centre for 17 years– she was a proud union representative for them.  She retired in 1995.  Joyce and Dick lived for 29 years in Moyie, moving to Cranbrook in 2007.

Joyce enjoyed travel with Dick and she spoke often of their trips to Europe, the U.S.A., and cruises through the Panama Canal, the East and West Caribbean, and Alaska.

Throughout her life, Joyce had many passions:  she was an avid reader, loved all things Avon, was a talented painter, and together with her long time friend, Teresa Pearson, she spent untold hours creating needlepoint artworks.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Naomi Northey, and four step children, Beth (Stu, deceased) Cerny, Doug (Dianne) Skow, Jim (Dolores) Skow, Art (Pat) Skow; her grandchildren, Craig (Missy),  Keith (Fiona), Richard (Stacey), Crystal (Karl), Kirsten,  Rachel (Josh), Lewis, Byron, Jesse, Jenna (Kyle), Jaida, and Naiwa; and great grandchildren Kaden, Aviya, Hailey, Amelia, Owen, Michael and Aliyah. Joyce will be greatly missed by her circle of friends, most especially Terry George and her dice buddies at the Eagles.  Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Lionel and Delta Perron; her beloved husband, Richard (Dick) Skow; sister Dwyla; brother Brian and her son, Wayne Yandon.

A memorial service will be held at the Fraternal Order Of Eagles, 715 Kootenay St N, Cranbrook, BC, on February 1, 2020, starting at 1p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
