Joyce Marie Bell (Gelling)

July 19, 1931 - October 20, 2023

Tribute

Joyce ended her life journey in the presence of her close family with the kind assistance of Kate & Nigel. Her dignity & composure persevered until her final moments, telling us “enjoy your lives, have fun”.

Joyce could be best described as a kind, loving, generous & sincere person; an absolutely fantastic mother. She golfed, curled and cross country skied in her younger years. An avid follower of the Blue Jays, hockey & tennis but curling was her true passion. Joyce was well known in the community having been a Super Valu cashier for the majority of her working life.

Her husband Claude succumbed to cancer in 2000 following almost 50 years of marriage. Joyce partnered with another former Dynamiter, Kenny McTeer, for another 18 years until his passing in 2018.

There will be no service as Joyce requested. Her family wishes to acknowledge staff at Gardenview Village, East Kootenay Oncology for their kindness and compassion.  Also to local pharmacy professionals and those involved in the provincial MAID Program. You know who you are. To Dr. Clay, too. Our gratitude to those family and friends for their sincerity, condolences & well wishes. Interestingly, Bob Dylan’s “Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door” started playing in the initial beginnings of this memoriam.

Luv ya, Ma.   Safe journey.

From: Vicky Holmes (Pearson)
Relation: Neighbor, curling.

Francis and John I am sorry to hear of your mothers passing. I lived kitty corner on the back alley to the Bell’s as a child and got to know Joyce best as an adult when we curled in the same league. She was a lovely kind woman, who I am sure will be missed by many for years to come..
