Jonathan Clarke Righton
February 29, 1984 - July 29, 2026
Tribute
Jonathan Clarke Righton passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Vancouver General Hospital.
Jonathan was welcomed to this world with loving arms at the Kimberley Hospital in Kimberley, BC on February 29, 1984 to David and Olwen, adding a younger brother for Mark and Colin.
Jonathan had a deep faith in God, and lived it. He was always kind to others and always there to lend a helping hand or an ear.
Jonathan’s biggest passion was photography. He had a great eye for nature, sports, and aviation. You can see this on his Right-on Photography Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/share/1GKdyEyUNG/
He had a love for aviation, often driving out to the Cranbrook airport for an opportunity to capture planes landing and taking off with the Steeple Mountains as his background. Any opportunity he could get to travel to other airports he would take. One of his favorites being the observation area at Calgary (YYC).
Jonathan also had a great passion for hockey. He was a die-hard and loyal fan of the Kimberley Dynamiters. He volunteered throughout the years for the club on their equipment team, and then moved to taking photographs for their special ceremonies and events for almost 15 years.
In 2025, the Kimberley Dynamiters honored Jonathan in a surprise ceremony for all of his great work taking photos throughout the years. It was a heart warming and well deserved moment for him. He loved baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays, albeit a bit of a glutton for punishment, always hoping to see the magic of the 1993 World Series. Almost!
More than anything, Jonathan loved spending time with his Mom, Olwen. Each evening he would go from Kimberley down to Marysville to have dinner and spend a few hours each night together. There they would watch baseball, or the Amazing Race, or just converse and enjoy each others company. If there was anything Olwen would need, Jonathan would always take care of it to the best of his abilities.
Jonathan worked as an office administrator for REALM in Cranbrook, British Columbia for 15 years. He was passionate and dedicated to the work he did, and loved. He was very involved in self-advocacy programs and headed a photography club which had 8 members. Jonathan truly loved every one there and he will be greatly missed.
Jonathan is survived by his loving mother Olwen, brothers Mark (Jen), Colin (Sara), nephew Dylan and niece Carys. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends. Jonathan was predeceased by his father David, grandparents Chester, Sarah Righton, Robin and Elsie Merrick and Uncle, Robin Righton.
A very special thank you to Dr. S. Van Zyl, Kimberley, Dr. M. Tso at Kelowna General Hospital, Dr. G. Redecop and Dr. A. Rohr at Vancouver General Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Kimberley Fellowship Baptist Church, 395 Marsden Street at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Refreshments will be provided following the service. In
lieu of flowers donations in Jonathan’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

To the Righton family,
Jonathan was a very special person and a wonderful friend to me. He was always there to encourage me and I’m going to miss our weekly chats. I take comfort in the fact that he is reunited with his dad and I’m sure he’ll be looking down on us and smiling. Wishing you peace, comfort and strength during this difficult time. Rest in peace Jonathan.
