Tribute
The family of John Murray Coleman Grant announces his passing on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, with great sadness, at the age of 73.
Murray entered the world in Creston, B.C., on May 22nd, 1953. He completed his schooling in Cranbrook, then worked odd jobs. He later
continued his education at Douglas College, where he earned a business degree, and then worked in banking on the Coast. After a few years, the Kootenays called him back, and he started working in the Forest sector until retirement.
Murray was an entrepreneur, having run a rabbitry as a teenager and sold his animals to the public and local meat markets; he became a Diamond-level Amway seller, as well as a very good horse handler, learning how to train and
work with them.
He was a member of Mike Moore’s boxing club, the Cranbrook Army Cadet Corps, and Minor Hockey. Murray became a devout religious person, finding solace in the King James bible and carried it with him wherever he went.
He is survived by his mother, Lorraine Miles, and brothers Randy Grant (Kay) and Rick Grant. step-sister Anne Birdstone (Dave) and step-brother Rod Birdstone as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, Leslie Grant, stepfather, Don Miles and sister in law Jane Grant. Also his Maternal grandparents, Jack and Eva Laing.
Cremation with no service. Rest in peace, Murray; now that you are in the arms of your saviour.
