John Augusto Raffaele Formenti
August 27, 1951 - March 28, 2024
Tribute
With heavy hearts and great sadness, we mourn the loss of John Formenti on March 28, 2024.
Surrounded by his children, John peacefully passed in the Intensive Care Unit at The East Kootenay
Regional Hospital.
Born and raised in Cranbrook, B.C., John embarked on his journey early in life. At just 15, he began
working part-time with a produce company called Scott National. After graduating he transitioned into a
full-time role delivering produce throughout the East Kootenay’s. Later, he assisted his father in
mastering the art of bricklaying and construction industry. In 1978, he started with The School District
#5, where he dedicated 38 years. Starting as a custodian and then as a journeyman painter, until his
well-deserved retirement in 2016.
John was more than a dedicated professional; he was a devoted family man. He built a home in 1994
where he raised his two children, J.R. and Jillian, who brought him immeasurable joy. His heart
overflowed with love for his three grandchildren, Lila, Lance, and Lane, who were the light of his life.
Known for his quiet strength, unwavering kindness, infectious sense of humour and endearing charm,
John was cherished by all who knew him. He found solace in simple pleasures with his daily phone
chats, FaceTime with family, The Sports Network, chocolate cake with a glass of milk and coffee outings
with the guys. Until his passing, John resided in the very home he had lovingly built, where every corner
held memories of a life well-lived.
John leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his children, son J.R. (Isabeau) and
daughter Jillian (Matthew); grandchildren, Lila, Lance, and Lane; brother, Elio (Lori); niece, Jamie (Steve);
nephew, Jay (Alleisha); great-niece/nephews and many cousins.
He is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved parents, John A. Formenti and Elvira Formenti (Trozzo).
A Celebration of Life for John will be held at The Columbo Lodge on May 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM in
Cranbrook, B.C. We invite all who knew and loved John to join us in honouring his memory.

I knew John through the School District as a painter and was always fascinated that he could paint without taping anything! He was a master at that craft! John was a kind and thoughtful neighbour to my Mom and was always ready with a kind word. My thoughts are with his family.

Our condolences sent to his family. John was a neighbor to my grandma Linda DeCecco for many years and she babysat for John,or went over for tea with John’s mom.
