John Franklin Dumas

July 5, 1938 - December 29, 2019

Tribute

John Franklin Dumas of Cranbrook, BC passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 29, 2019. John was born on July 5, 1938 in Cold Lake, Manitoba and moved to Prince Rupert, BC when he was a young boy.  That’s where he spent many of his childhood years leading to a deep love of the ocean.  As an adult, John lived in various places throughout BC and the Yukon and displayed his entrepreneurial spirit by running such businesses as a jewelry store, a laundromat and his people skills by being involved in real estate and insurance.  John decided in 1989 to move his family from Whitehorse to Cranbrook and that’s where he spent the rest of his years.  John’s love for Cranbrook and the people of the city was very evident to everyone that met him, and he could easily be found strolling the local Farmer’s Markets, or other community events, having coffee with his friends or volunteering at the many senior’s organizations and church services around town.  His passion to help others was slightly surpassed by his passion for music.  John never went far without his guitar and would love to bring light into people’s lives by playing and singing for them.  He volunteered every year for the Salvation Army kettle campaign and spent many hours singing in the mall for all the holiday shoppers.  He would involve all his neighbors in back yard, summer night jam fests and spent a good 10 years participating in the Canadian Country Gospel Jamboree.  John was a big-hearted man who saw the good in everyone, and had immense love for his family, friends and the Lord.

John was predeceased by his father, Steve Dumas, his mother Anna Dumas, brothers George Dumas and Steve Dumas and sister Patricia Hamilton (nee Dumas).

John is survived by 3 sons, Juan (Sylvia), Jesse (Denise) and James (Amy), 14 grand kids, his sisters Anne and Sharon and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2:00 pm at New Life Foursquare Gospel Church – 308 10th Ave. S., Cranbrook, BC.
