John Henry Campsall

March 16, 1933 - May 1, 2023

Tribute

On Monday, May 1, 2023 John Henry Campsall passed away at the F. W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook at the age of 90 years.  John was born on March 16, 1933 and was the second oldest of six children.

John was employed as a truck and bus driver throughout his life.  He had worked for a few different trucking companies including Trotter’s trucking, Millar & Brown, Salvador Ready Mix and as a bus driver for the School District.  John safely delivered hundreds of children to and from school from Wycliffe and Bull River throughout his career as a School Bus driver.  He is likely remembered by many residents of the Cranbrook area as Mr. Campsall the bus driver.

John and his brother Hank were partners in Campsall Valley Ranch and Outfitting operation in the 1960s.  After their partnership ended John continued to raise beef cattle on his small farm at Fort Steele.  During this time he met Donna and they were married in August of 1968.

John truly enjoyed the Cowboy lifestyle and was a very accomplished Team Roper for many years.  He and Donna were members of the Pine Ridge Roping Club, and enjoyed the many close friendships that they formed with other Club members.  John and his horse Mary were regulars at the Club’s practice nights,  weekend events, and local Rodeos.

In retirement, John and Donna enjoyed travelling south to escape the winters.  The remainder of the year, they enjoyed spending time visiting family, friends and attending the Fellowship Baptist Church.

John leaves behind his children; Linda (Peterson), Brad, Patrick, Kevin and David  Campsall and Guy, Michael and Harland Levesque as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his younger siblings Maureen Campsall, Marlene Godlonton, and Bob Campsall.  He was predeceased by his wife Donna Faye, oldest sister Shirley (Atwood), his younger brother Hank Campsall as well as his former wife, Carol Abbey.

Our family is so very thankful to the F. W. Green Memorial Home for the care they gave to Dad in his last years.  We know Dad and all of the residents are so much more than just a resident at the FW Green Home.  He was part of the FW Green Home family.  Our gratitude to all of you!

A Celebration of Life for John will take place at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort, 209 Van Horne St., Cranbrook on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.

I have such good memories of roping with John! He turned many steers for me and the one I remember most was at Grainger at Fort Steele.. he latched on tea big steer and he and Mary left town with Rhubarb and I in hot pursuit. I caught two feet, and had my hand in the dally! He hollered “Hang on a minute for the flag!” So I did and we won money.. shared many a laugh over that one. He was lots of fun. 💔
