Jerry Lacourciere

December 22, 1936 - February 20, 2023

Tribute

It is with profound heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jerry Lacourciere, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who passed away at Cranbrook, BC, with his daughter, granddaughter, son-in-law, and wife of 41 years by his side.

Jerry Lacourciere was born on December 22, 1939, to his parents, Bruno and Rose Lacourciere.

He was born and grew up in Mutrie, Saskatchewan, with his eight siblings, Noel, Albert, Paul, George, Roland, Frank, Norman, and Cecile Lacourciere, in which he was the youngest amongst his family. Jerry moved to British Columbia later in life and began his painting and drywalling business. He was an excellent painter with 50+ years of experience and completed many jobs throughout British Columbia. Jerry settled down with his first wife, Olive (Marshall) Lacourciere, on March 9th, 1968, in which they had two children, Michelle and Norman Lacourciere, and stepchildren Oline, Linda, Debbie, and Patricia. He was a very devoted father and loved his children. His first wife, Olive (Marshall)  Lacourciere, tragically passed in 1979 due to health complications and was left to provide for his two little children. He was later united in marriage with his second wife Kathleen Lacouriere on February 20th, 1982, in Cranbrook, BC. Jerry moved with his wife Kathleen from Cranbrook to Creston, BC. Shortly after, Jerry, Kathleen and their children moved to Kuskanook Kootenay Lake, where they lived till 1996, then finally moved to Cranbrook, BC, where they lived ever since. He retired in 2000, where he enjoyed time surrounded by family. Jerry enjoyed walking with his dog Taz, fishing, and spending days out at Fort Steele. In 2020 he moved into Kootenay Street Village, where he resided till his passing. He loved living in the facility and was always determined to put a smile on the healthcare staff’s faces, making them laugh daily. Jerry would often speak highly about the healthcare staff at the facility and appreciate their hard work and care. He was loved and cherished by all. Jerry was particularly proud of his granddaughter Selena and was her biggest cheerleader in her pursuit of nursing. He was always looking forward to her working in the facility one day. Right up to the last few days, Jerry was always cheerful, laughing, and joking around. His daughter and granddaughter will always hold on to his final words of, “Well, I’ll see you later.”, “I love you.” and “Thanks for everything.” in their hearts till they meet again.

Jerry was quite the comedian and always made people laugh. He had a contagious laugh and never failed to light up the room. He would always crack himself and others up, turning beat red in the face. Jerry’s sneezes and yawns were quite entertaining for everyone within earshot.

He was diagnosed in 2022 with Stage 4 bile duct cancer and passed away from health complications on February 20th, 2023, during which close family surrounded him. Jerry was loved immensely by his family and will be dearly missed by his wife Kathleen Lacourciere, daughter Michelle Mayne, stepdaughters Oline Mcneece and Debbie Smith, son Norman Lacourierce, grandaughters Selena Libregts and Alishea Lacourciere, grandson Jacob Lacourciere, and his five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Rose Lacourciere, and siblings Noel, Albert, Paul, George, Roland, Frank, Norman, and Cecile.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Kootenay Street Village for the excellent, loving care they gave to Jerry, and for keeping him laughing and happy all the way to the end. The family would also like to express gratitude to Dr. Witten for the years of caring for Jerry.

He was loved by many and his memory will always remain close in our hearts forever. Heaven gained a new angel.
