Janet "Marguerite" Wodell (Hotchkiss)

September 1, 1923 - December 6, 2018

Tribute

At the Pines after a long, gentle decline – strokes, dementia and alzheimers claimed most of her memory at least seven years prior, but she continued to enjoy her life and time with her family and friends.
Daughter of Thomas(Tommy) and Jane Hotchkiss, she was born in Lethbridge, Alberta.  She grew up in Kimberley, then moved to Vancouver to train at St. Pauls Hospital.  She spend her working life in Victoria, Cranbrook and Trail as a registered nurse.  Marguerite retired and moved to Kimberley to care for her widowed Father.
Predeceased by husband John H. (Jack Wodell, Marguerite is survived by her son Russell Wodell and daughter Shirley Brydle, grandchildren Jordan and Julie , great grandson Jaydon Brydle. Also, sister Mamie Pearson, brother Jim and wife Erma Hotchkiss, treasured niece Jo-Anne Carlisyle and  beloved sister-in-law Bernice Turner, husband Fred and sons Doug and Ron Turner.  Also special friends Dean Arnold, Grace McGregor, Mary Rogers and many others.  Special thanks to Jim Carlisle, Agnes Hay and Michelle Evenson for helping her maintain independent living as long as possible.

Mom enjoyed spending time in Sydney, BC. and at Deans cabin on Jim Smith Lake. She also often traveled to Vancouver to see her son. She was always eager to spend as much time as she could with her daughter, her two grandchildren and great grandson.  Christmas was never the same without her.  She is remembered for her quick wit, huge smile, easy laugh, puzzle,  scrabble and crossword skills as well her Scottish shortbread cookies. She enjoyed knitting and crafts and in her later years and knit socks and mitts to donate to charity.

We mourn not only a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother but a loving and caring friend to all.  She requested no funeral service or flowers and was cremated at Mark Memorial, Cranbrook, B.C.  Private family ceremony to be held at Jim Smith Lake at a later date.  Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
Condolences or comments may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com.  Special thanks to Lorraine of Mark Memorial for her wonderful help, caring and understanding during this difficult time.

Dean Leonard introduced me to Marguerite more than 30 years ago. We had much fun and many laughs ….. hiking to Lakit Lookout, cocktails/dinner enjoying the view at Jim Smith Lake, cards and laughs at Campbell’s on Lazy Lake. I enjoyed the stories from their childhood in Kimberley, going to Vancouver for nurses training, war-time life. I appreciate having the opportunity to know Margeurite and share fun times with her. Condolences to her family and may your memories comfort you.
