February 12, 1913 - December 5, 2011
Tribute
Netta was born at Kelvin Head, Kilsyth, Scotland and passed away peacefully at Joseph Creek Village Extended Care in Cranbrook. Predeceased by her husband of 66 yeras, John Harold (Jack) in November of 2007, Netta is survived by son Neil and his wife Gail, two grandchildren; Liesl and her husband Kevan, Robert and his wife Amy and three great grandchildren; Hayley, Azchary and Evan. Netta came to Canada with her parents in 1919 to a farm hear Bering, Saskatchewan in the Qu”Appele Valley. The family left the farm and after stops in Lethbrdige, AB and Michel, BC they arrived in Kimberley. Initially living in a log cabin along Mark Creek, they soon moved to Chapman Camp. Netta completed high school in Kimberley and after a year at Normal School returned to Chapman Camp and at 17 began as a substitute teacher in the one room school that stands on the Marysville School grounds. A full time position followed, as did a move to Chapman Camp Elementary where, except for a few years in the earlys 1940”s, Netta taught grades 3 and 4 until she retired. Netta and Jack enjoyed many years of retirement, their summer home on Kootenay Lake, some travelling and most of all vist from and visitng their grandchildren. In 2003 to ease the continuing fight with dementia, they sold their home and moved to Joseph Creek where a truly remarkable and wonderful group of caregivers have kept her comfortable the last few years. The family is grateful for them and extends their heartfelt thanks. There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, gratefully declined, memorial donations if desired may be made in Netta”s name directly to the Alzheimer”s Society or charity of choice. Cremation.
