James Russell Osborne

October 8, 1938 - June 8, 2013

Tribute

On the late evening of Saturday, June 8, 2013 James Russell Osborne passed from this life at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 74 years. Jim was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta on October 8, 1938, one of five siblings born to Tom and Elaine Osborne.

Jim had many loves in his life – the first and foremost were his wife and two girls. He loved to travel.  Jim and Dianne (Dee) experienced many adventures together to different destinations including Mexico, the South and Eastern U.S. and across Canada to the Maritimes. He had friends from Creston, B.C. all the way to Mexico.

Jim and Dee would have celebrated 50 years together on July 6, 2013.

Jim was a teacher, school counsellor and businessman. He was an active member of many organizations, including the Credit Union and B.C. Teacher’s Federation. He loved the outdoors and spent much time over the years fishing, water and snow skiing as well as playing baseball, hockey, and golf. Aside from the home they constructed in Creston (residing there for 20 years),  Jim and Dee also purchased a Kootenay Lake property in 1968 and he loved all his time there with his family (and later his much loved grandchildren). Later in 1988, they moved there permanently.

Jim had a smiling and happy disposition. He was always ready to help whatever the need, and he had a generous and positive outlook on life. He will long be remembered for this and for his sense of humour.

Jim will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.

Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife, Dianne; two daughters Marnie (& Gerry) of Redwood City, California and Michelle of Victoria, B.C. He also leaves behind three grandchildren; Graham, Sydney, and Keslee, one brother Tom and two sisters, Carol and Susan. He was predeceased by one sister Ruth.

At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral service; a private family gathering will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the B.C. Cancer foundation at www.bccancerfoundation.com Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com

From: Janet (Moen) Jones
Relation: went to Gr.12 in G.P. with Jim,

Was startled & sad to see Jim’s obit in today’s Advance. Surprised to know that Jim (and family) had lived here for so long. Knew him in Grande Prairie where we were in school during Gr.12. I’ve now been here 10 yrs., lost my husband 2 1/2 yrs. ago. Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of your husband and father.

Relation: Neighbours

Having lived next to Jim and Dee at the lake are memories that will never be forgotten. Neighbours helping neighbours, people genuinely loving the people next door. Jim and Dee helping me through the loss of my husband, crying with me….knowing how close the two of you were, as we were, I know that emptiness and where do I go from here as a “me” rather than a “me”…. I will always be here for you Dee and family…..always…….

From: Patrick Daigle
Relation: brother-in-law

What a wonderful guy. I have fond memories of special times with Jim: snow skiing at Kimberly, travel adventures Wyoming; Colorado, and on the Yucatan Penninsula; bird-game hunting in the Creston valley; and fun times at the lake – water skiing, wood cutting, and enjoying a cool beer at sunset. Dee, for a 22-year-old, you sure could pick a winner. My sympathies to you Dee, Michelle, and Marnie.

From: Judy and Jerry Thatcher
Relation: Friends we met in Yuma

IDear Dee. Maggie gave us the sad news and then emailed the obit as I had wanted to pass on our condolences. I never have the right words to say in times like this, but just know that our thoughts are with you and we are very sorry for your loss. Take care and stay well.

Relation: Friend of Michelle
