Tribute

LIND-BLAD, Jack Phillip Raymond.  Born February 15, 1926 in Waldron, Saskatchewan.  Died April 6, 2014 in Creston, British Columbia.  Jack Lind-Blad passed away peacefully in his sleep at Crestview long-term care.  He was 88 years old.

Jack was born the youngest of 8, to Edward and Ottilia Lindblad, who immigrated to Saskatchewan from Sweden.  At age 3, the family moved from the farm into the town of Melville, Saskatchewan where his father worked as a carpenter.  In his teens, he attended Sharon Bible School in North Battleford, Saskatchewan.  He was drafted into the Canadian Army just prior to the end of WWII, then returned to North Battleford after discharge.

He married Frieda Eisenhut on August 29, 1949 in North Battleford.  Both Jack and Frieda worked as psychiatric nurses at the North Battleford Mental Hospital.  In 1954, they moved to Redlands, California where Jack attended Redlands University.  Their first child, Karen, was born in 1955.  She was delivered by Jack in their apartment, as they did not have the money to see a doctor.  They returned to Canada shortly after, to Edmonton, Alberta, where their next two children were born:  son, Blair, in 1956 and second daughter, Faine,  in 1960.  During this time, Jack worked as a pharmaceutical rep for several drug companies.  In 1967, they moved to an acreage in Sidney on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Jack was a very creative person and was a dreamer. When he could see, he loved to read and to cook and to sew, and was an avid gardener.  In many ways he was ahead of his time, and as early as the 1960’s he was fascinated with organic gardening and had his children reading The Lord of The Rings.

Jack lived in Creston since 1997.  He spent his final years at Crestview Village, initially in assisted living and then in long-term care.  His family would like to thank the staff of Crestview long-term care for their loving care of Dad in his final years.

Jack is survived by his children, Karen Kaczkowski, Blair Lindblad, and Faine (Ted) Stenhouse; his grandchildren:  Candice Collins, Jay (Kate) Collins, Josie Lindblad, and Teya Stenhouse; his greatgrandson, Kelton Fraser;  and his older brother, Grant Lindblad.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda, his parents, and his other siblings.

It was Dad's stated wish that there be no funeral.   The family will be having a private memorial and celebration of his life.  Memorial donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Canadian Red Cross, 312 – 15th Ave. N., Creston, BC  V1G 4J2.
