Isobel Joy Bradford (Russell)

February 25, 1927 - October 16, 2022

Tribute

The family of Isobel Bradford wish to share the news of her passing on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the age of 95 years.  Isobel was born in Calgary, Alberta and raised on the farm between Drumheller and Munson, Alberta.  She was the last of the original “Russell Pioneer Family” who came to the Drumheller valley in the 1890’s.  In later years her mother (Mary Russell) and Isobel moved to Calgary.

In 1946 she married Charles Arthur Bradford known as Brad.  They were married in Toronto at the Toronto Eaton Memorial Church.  A year later they moved back to Calgary where her husband worked at Eaton’s Dept. Store credit department.

They raised three sons, Doug, Ron and Russell.  In 1977 they retired to Cranbrook, BC.  They enjoyed their cottage at Edwards Lake for many years.  Isobel also worked at the Credit Bureau in Cranbrook for 12 years.

Isobel was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Daughters of the Nile and also a lifetime member of the Hospital Auxiliary.  Isobel belonged to a knitting group for many years.  She ran Bingo at Tara Lee (her home) and was on the Social Committee but most of all she enjoyed playing Bridge.

Isobel leaves to mourn her passing her three sons; Douglas (Donna) Bradford (Calgary), Ronald Bradford (Sidney, BC) and Russell (Laurie) Bradford (Calgary). She leaves behind four grandchildren; Cindy (Trevor) Couldwell (Calgary), Scott (Katie) Bradford (Boston, Mass.), Brandy (Russ) Morin (Calgary) and Casey (Chris) Boyko (Calgary).  Also left are seven great grandchildren; Cole and Chase Bradford (Boston, Mass.), Luke and Charlie Couldwell (Calgary), William Morin (Calgary) and Ivy and Evenly Boyko (Calgary).  Isobel leaves behind several nephews.  Isobel was predeceased by her mother Mary Russell, brothers Norman, Wilfred, Stewart, Robert and Jimmie as well as three step-sisters Peggy, Janet and Grace.  In 2002, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Brad.

There will be no funeral service.

My deepest condolences to Doug,Ron,Russell and family! I met your mom close to 20 years ago, I cleaned for her and when I moved to Vancouver Island in 2015 we would chat on the phone and I would visit whenever I got back home and last time was 2021, we had tea and a nice catch up, we would laugh and talk which she loved to do, and she always showed me the newest photos and family news, she loved you so very much. Your mom was the kindest most loving person and always there if needed. I will miss her! Joanne Botterill

To the Bradford Family.
We were so sorry to hear Aunty Isobel had passed away. Our plan was to take her for lunch on Wednesday, Oct 19, on our way to Creston for apples. She was our link to the Russell-Galloway genealogy. In fact, I had pictures in my purse I wanted to ask her about! We always enjoyed our visits with her. We will miss her. Deepest sympathy to you all.
Gay and Neal
