Irene Phillips (Schuler)

October 13, 1932 - October 5, 2023

Tribute

Irene was the third child born to Otto and Lena Schuler on a farm outside of Punnichy, Sask.  She left the farm to cook for a construction crew her brother Charlie worked for in eastern Alberta where she met her future husband Dave Phillips.  They married in December 1951 and had two children both born in Cereal, Alberta.  Moves to Parson, BC, Beadle, Sask, Golden, BC and Cranbrook followed.
Irene was a stay-at-home Mom while her children were in school and was a great cook, baker and homemaker. She worked at various jobs before retiring from K-Mart.
She and Dave participated in many sports over the years: playing ball, curling, pony chariot and chuckwagon racing and golf.
After Dave passed away in 2005, Irene moved from Green Bay in to Cranbrook.  She enjoyed Kootenay Ice games, walking with friends, monthly lunches with the ‘K-Mart girls’ followed by a few hours at the casino. She was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan. Her great-granddaughter Samantha’s weekly sleepovers were the highlight of her week.
Irene was pre-deceased by husband Dave, granddaughter Desiree, her parents, siblings Charlie Schuler, Emma Middelkoop, Betty Danchuk, Dolly Lorenz and Muriel Haus, Dave’s parents and siblings.
She is survived by her children Marilyn Berry and Larry Phillips; grandchildren Dave (Cori) Berry, Jared (Carly) Phillips, Janice (Nick) Christy, Amber Phillips, Tessa (Jared) Taylor and Lauren Phillips; ten great grandchildren (and one expected in January), sister Katherine (Bob) Keep, sister-in-law Marge, brothers-in-law Denny and Rod and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and close friends celebrated Irene’s life on what would have been her 91st birthday on October 14.
