Ida Jane Cale (Stobie)
April 7, 1951 - March 6, 2014
Tribute
Ida Jane Cale was born on a Saturday. She was born to Andy and Alice Stobie in Calgary, their youngest child and only daughter. Her life long friend Betty would live just next door to her. She left Wild Rose Country as a young woman and headed west to British Columbia and the call of the ocean. After living the coastal life, she headed north to Prince George and became one of the first women to work for BC Parks, a career that would alter the course of her life and be the root for many of her most meaningful and life-long friendships. A transfer down to the East Kootenays, where she became a mainstay of the Wasa Community and made many more friends, led her to meet the love of her life Bob Cale. Bob and Ida were wed in 1979, had Cindy Marie in 1982 and Josie Alyse in 1986. After close to 40 years with BC Parks, Ida retired in 2009 but continued to be an active volunteer and community member with more time for her garden and to adopt friend’s babies as her own grandchildren. Ida believed that families were built out of love, which meant that her family tree was truly extensive. Ida died on a Thursday, after battling lung and bone cancer. She leaves us all a bit poorer without her presence but she will continue to affect the world for the better through the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 29, 2014 at 1:30PM at the Wasa Community Hall in Wasa, BC. Here is a link to a Google Map for the Wasa Hall:

Relation: Through knowing Cindy
We were priviledged to have Cindy, Ida’s eldest daughter, live with us for some months whilst Cindy was on her Rotary Exchange Year in New Zealand.
Sadly we were never able to visit Canada and meet Ida & Bob although many of our fellow Rotarians did so. Cindy became part of our family and we loved sharing her adventures with her.
From: Deborah Griffith
Relation: CBEEN board
Ida was an inspiration for me as a Columbia Basin Environmental Education Network (CBEEN) board member and became during that time a good friend. She and our mutual friend Susie would occasionally come down to Invermere or we would meet in Kimberley area for lunch. I loved every moment spent with her and will truly miss her laughter, wisdom and all the fun we shared. Getting to know Ida was a gift for me! I know she touched a lot of people through her interpretive work with BC Parks. She will continue to reach children and people throughout the Columbia Basin through her wonderful support and work during her time on the CBEEN board.
