Graham ("Tiny") Lawrence Willmott

June 28, 1948 - February 5, 2018

Tribute

On the morning of Monday, February 5, 2018, Graham Lawrence Willmott, affectionately known as “Tiny” passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 69 years. Tiny was born in Barking Side, Essex, England on June 28, 1948.  He was the eldest of three children born to Bill and May Willmott.  Tiny married Graine Bates in 1973 and enjoyed 43 years together.

Most of Tiny’s working years were spent at the Skookumchuck Pulp Mill as a power engineer and storeman.  One of his greatest passions was the time he spent with YBC coaching the youth in bowling.  The young bowlers loved him and as time passed they would come back to him for advice on their bowling strategies. He carried this legacy of bowling on to his grandchildren.  Tiny spent many hours at the bowling alley volunteering, coaching and competing.  Bowling and all the activity around it was one of his true loves!  Tiny was the Chairman of the Cricket Club as well.  He loved music and especially had a love for “The Shadows”.  This passion he shared with his good friend, Doug Fitch, an old high school buddy. He and Doug would play at events with Tiny on the guitar and Doug playing bass.  Those were good times for both of them. Tiny and Hugh Hambleton spent many hours together playing bridge and crib at the Seniors Citizens Hall.  They worked at the pulp mill together for many years and they, too, enjoyed many good times playing cards and having lunch together at Tim Horton’s.

Tiny leaves to cherish his memory his son Scott (Dawn) and children and daughter, Ilia (Chris) and children. Also left is Graham’s sister Miriam as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.  Tiny was predeceased by his wife, Graine in 2016, his mother May in 2014 and his sister, Sue in 2008.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Tiny on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Cranbrook Seniors Citizens Hall, 125 17 Ave S, Cranbrook from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  The family would appreciate memorial donations be made in Tiny’s memory to the Senior Citizens Hall, 125 17 Ave S, Cranbrook, BC V1C 5M3.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.mark memorial.com.

To Ilia and Scott and families. We send our Deepest Sympathy on the los of your father and the Grandkids grandfather. We will miss Graham very much. He was a very close friend. We were in their Wedding party on Jan.26 1974. They were married for 42 years since Graine”s passing. We got married the same year but four months after them. They were very close special friends. We had visit Graham on Thursday Feb. 1st at the hospital and when we got there we learnt the he had fallen and broken his Hip. He was in small bit a pain with drugs to help the pain and he was tired so we didn’t stay to long. Ivan shook Graham’s hand and we told him we cared and hope to see him soon. Ivan said he didn’t think you Dad would make it through the operation. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Sure going to miss visiting your Dad at the house and bringing him coffee and Ivan talking about old times at the Pulpmill. We loved your Dad he was a wonderful person and really will missing him. If you need any help with anything with house or anything please call us. Please in your thoughts and gathering too. Lots of love Ivan and Dale Mather
