Gertrude Siemens (Neufeld)
October 7, 1928 - April 1, 2017
Tribute
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gertrude Siemens, our beloved and wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Gertrude passed away peacefully in Fernie at the Rocky Mountain Village on April 1st, 2017.
Gertrude was born in Hague, SK on the 7th of October, 1928, the second of seven children born to Abram and Maria Neufeld. Gertrude married Herman Siemens in Arabella, SK in 1948 and a few years later they moved to Martensville, SK where together they operated Avenue A Service and raised their 5 children. In 1971, they moved to Cranbrook, BC where they jointly operated Woodland Grocery. Following her husband’s passing in 1982, Gertrude continued to live and enjoy the Cranbrook/Moyie area for the remainder of her life. Gertrude was well known in Moyie for the delicious fresh bread, buns and pies she often made for fundraising events. She made the best cottage cheese perogies and Easterbread and many other traditional meals for her family to enjoy. She loved to cook and to see how many she could fit around her table for dinner, the more the merrier.
Gertrude was a very generous woman and gave many hours to the hospital auxiliary, she was quick to help when needed. She enjoyed many activities throughout her life, quilting, travelling square dancing, skiing and snowmobiling to name a few. Mom loved to remember how she could run when she was young. She would run 3/4 mile from Arabella school to home at lunch hour.
Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, her husband Herman Siemens, her brothers Abe and George, sister Mary and son-in-law Harvey Friesen and granddaughter, Christina. Gertrude is survived by her 5 children, Anna Friesen, Bob (Shirley) Siemens, George Siemens, Henry (Geraldine) Siemens and Donald (Cindy) Siemens as well as 10 Grandchildren, Jason (Haley), Marc (Barb), Kyle (Cassie), Alex (Brooke), Daniel (Hanna), Shawna (Derek), Tyler (Joy), Kristen (Barry), Bob, Kevin and 17 Great Grandchildren.
A service will be held at Mark Memorial Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date.
Our thanks for the care and kindness shown to our Motherby the Cranbrook Hospital and the Rocky Mountain Village care home.

Mrs Siemens always had a smile to share and was always a pleasure to visit with.
Gertrude had the most wonderful cooking skills and we had the pleasure of enjoying her table faire on many occasions. One of her greatest gifts to us all is teaching her children these same gifts.
