Gary Nonis passed away at home in Cranbrook on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the age of 78 years. Gary was born on August 1, 1942 to Mario and Ada Nonis in Trail, BC.
Gary’s chosen career was as a teacher educating children. He loved hunting, fishing and skiing. He was a member of the Rod and Gun Club and was also a COP (Citizens on Patrol) in his neighborhood. Gary loved cooking for his family and playing and spending time with his granddaughter.
Gary leaves to mourn his passing his beloved son, Aaron Michael and his wife Amy. Also left behind his beloved granddaughter, Anika Ada and his brother, Danny. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Mario and Ada Nonis
A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held at a later date. In memory of Gary memorial donations may be made to the BC Cancer Society or to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Mr. Nonis was my grade 5 teacher in 1995. He was the reason I hold a hunting license and inspired me to be a ethical and conscientious hunter. I also received my first “A” in science that year. He is one teacher that made a lasting impact on my life and although I have only just seen this… I’m sure he would be happy knowing at 38 years old I still hold fond memories and still think of him (and thank him for not giving me detention for punching a classmate in the nose at lunchtime! Mr. Nonis just asked me if he deserved it… wouldn’t fly today… but, that will stay with me forever!). My condolences to the family, he was a great man and an excellent teacher.
