Garth George Unrau

December 26, 1958 - December 28, 2025

Tribute

Garth George Unrau passed away peacefully at his home in Cranbrook, BC surrounded by family on the morning of December 28, 2025 at the age of 67. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Marie Unrau, and his cherished children—both human and furry.

Garth was born on December 26, 1958, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He spent his early childhood in Portage la Prairie before moving to Weyburn, Saskatchewan, in his early teens where he lived most of his life. In his younger years, Garth was an avid golfer, known as the life of the party and a friend to all.

Garth and Sandra shared 35 wonderful years of marriage, bonded by their mutual love of fishing, a pastime they enjoyed together throughout their long and happy life together. A man of routine and connection, Garth spent every Sunday catching up with friends over the phone and never left the house without proudly wearing his Saskatchewan Roughriders green.

He leaves behind his children: Nicole Griffin (Bryan Edgington), Christopher Unrau (Jacqueline Unrau), Thomas Unrau, Alex Unrau, and Sarah Unrau (Zach Everson); his beloved grandson, Brian Unrau; and his siblings, Wesley Unrau (Laura Unrau and family) and Janice Unrau. Garth is predeceased by his parents Jacob Unrau and Christine Unrau (Brockie).

Please send any donations on behalf of Garth to the Canadian Cancer Society. A memorial will be held at a later date still to be determined.
