Tribute
With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Mom was born to Clarence and Mona Lamb (Cavey) on September 30, 1927 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. She was their only child. As mom grew older, she worked day and night with her dad on her Grandpa Cavey’s farm in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan. Anything that needed to be done, mom did it with her dad. Her best high light was telling us about her running the combine. She would say” I guess I should have been a boy”, butalways felt bad she didn’t spend time with her mom in the house. Mom always talked about walking miles back and forth to school and occasionally taking her horse. At 11 years old in 1939, the family went into the orphanage home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to pick out her baby brother. She was so happy to now have a baby brother named Walter. A few years later the family adopted Donny into the family too. In 1941 they moved to Mullingar-Mayfair, Saskatchewan to farm again. She attended school at Mayfair then off to Pleasantsite, Sask. Her dad sold the farm in 1948 and moved to White Rock, BC. In 1950 the family moved back to Rabbit Lake to her Uncle Cliff Lamb’s farm. With four children there, things didn’t go right for her. From there, she met the love of her life, Wesley Bishop. They were married on January 23, 1957. Mom and dad had five children from 1958 to 1963. In 1966 they decided to move west again and ended up at 93 Mile House (Caribou). There we built our home in Lone Butte. A few years later we sold that house and moved out to Watch Lake Road. Mom waitressed in the Four Seasons Restaurant in 100 Mile House area. Mom waitressed and cooked at many places over the years. Her best recipe was her homemade cinnamon buns right out of the oven. In 1983 mom and dad moved to Abbotsford, BC and ran an apartment building. In 1988 they moved to Cranbrook and made it their final home. Mom also worked at a few restaurants here in town. She loved to play Bingo and watch her grandchildren grow. She was very active in snowmobiling, playing pool and bowling. In the 1990’s in Cranbrook, she and her bowling team took first place which sent them off to Reno for a competition.
Left to mourn her passing are her beloved children, her sons; Clarence (Eileen) Bishop, Cranbrook, Walter (Jill) Bishop, Chilliwack, Ralph Bishop, Hinton, AB, Robert (Kim) Bishop , Cranbrook as well as her daughters; Thelma Larsen, 100 Mile House, Marie (Scotty) Sobey, Cranbrook and June Bishop, Cranbrook as well as her 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Mom’s two brothers are also left behind; Walter Lamb, Victoria and Donny (Brenda) Lamb in Saskatchewan. She also leaves her Bingo partner and long-time friend, Agnes from Kimberley and , Diane Pocha, Cranbrook. Mom also leaves her former daughters-in-law, Cindy and Eva-Lynn Bishop.
Mom was predeceased by our dad, Wesley Richard Bishop in 2012, one daughter, Vivian in 2017 and one Granddaughter Donna Bishop in 2002, her son-in-law Terry Larsen in 2019 and former son-in-law Paul Gauthier in 2017.
