Eric James Carlisle

April 28, 1935 - July 9, 2023

Tribute

With great sadness, the family of Jim Carlisle said goodbye to their hero – their dad, grandpa, and great-
grandpa on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
Jim, the youngest of four boys, was born in Windermere to George and Elsie Carlisle. His parents and
two oldest brothers (Allan and Fred) immigrated from England and began their life in Windermere. The
family farm was purchased in Wycliffe and the family of four (George and Jim) settled into their new life.
Jim spent his childhood and teenage years farming and attending school in Cranbrook.
After a brief stint in Calgary, Jim returned home to work at Cominco and attend welding school. Jim
began his welding career with Crestbrook in Cranbrook and then in Skookumchuck. After retiring in
2000, Jim could be found with his brother Allan, “Slim”, bent over his work bench, working on a project
to either build or fix something, or entertaining visitors over a cup of coffee.
Jim cared for his family deeply and showed that love in his quiet, unassuming way. He married Joanne
(née Pearson) on June 6, 1959, and they spent 50 years together full of spur of the moment road trips
and time with their family and friends. Jim was Joanne’s main caregiver during her seven-year fight with
cancer until she passed in 2009.
His three children: Michael, Cathy (Brian), and Shawn (Peggy), his nine grandchildren: Craig, Jayme,
Stephany (Alexander), Ethan, Michaela, Bryson, Joelle, Tyanna, and Erica and his two great-
grandchildren: Khiara and Braxton take comfort in knowing that although he was a man of few words,
they knew Jim loved and was proud of them. The family thanks those extended family members and
friends who have so graciously supported Jim over the past year and all those who have sent their
condolences and remembrances. According to Jim’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial, but
donations can be made in memory of Jim’s love of animals to the BC SPCA.

Sincere condolences to Jim’s family. I worked with him at the pulp mill. He welded me a stainless steel beer mug as a parting gift when I left in 1986. It is still displayed on my desk with pride. RIP Jimmy.
