Edith Hildegard Dudka (Tober)
September 28, 1930 - January 25, 2026
Tribute
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith H. Dudka on January 25, 2026, at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
Edith was born on September 28, 1930, in Germany to Adam and Julia Tober.
She came to Canada in 1947 and lived in Regina, Saskatchewan. Edith married her first husband, John, and worked as a seamstress at the Grey Nuns Hospital. She had many fond memories of working alongside the nuns. Edith and John then moved to Calgary, Alberta, and raised daughters Heide and Lucy. She also worked for many years as a talented seamstress there.
In 1977, the family moved to a beautiful acreage in Cranbrook. Shortly thereafter, the marriage dissolved, and she remained at the property. She worked at Woolworths for many years and gained many friendships there. She met her second husband, Stan, the love of her life. Together they built their beautiful “Shangri-la.” Edith used her green thumb to manicure many beautiful flower gardens. Together they spent their days outdoors developing and tending to their huge vegetable garden. They also hosted many family gatherings, welcoming all with open arms. There were many bonfires and good times.
After Stan’s sudden passing in 2006, Edith moved back to Calgary to be with her daughters. She lived there until 2019 and then returned to Cranbrook, which she always considered home.
Edith was always a fiercely independent woman and chose to live in her own home together with her daughter Lucy and grandson Wade until her passing.
Edith lived a full 95 years and was admired for her incredible strength, hard work ethic, and compassionate heart. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
