Tribute

With profound sadness the family of Wayne McLaren announces his quick and peaceful passing at the EKRH on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the age of 68.  He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Nola, two sons; Tyson (Holly) and Curtis (Casey), two granddaughters Lilly and Aliya, mother-in-law Helen Findlay and many other loving relatives.

He was predeceased by, and now joins his parents Gordon and Flora (Bates) McLaren, brother Robert “Bob” and sister-in-law Heather.

Born in Kimberley September 14, 1948,  he moved away as a youth with his family, coming back to spend each summer with his cousins in Kimberley.  Wayne married Nola in 1973, and they started a family with whom he spent each summer at their cottage on St. Mary Lake.

He was best known for his countless hours as an avid volunteer with many community groups such as coaching Football, Hockey and Baseball.  He was a youth leader and district president/commissioner of Scouts Canaada, a director and president of the Kimberley Transit and worked with the Kimberley RCMP Speedwatch program as well as Citizens on Patrol (COPS).  He spent his career working in trucking and distribution, then returned to Kimberley in 2000 to retire at the age of 52.

Wayne was recognized by the Governor General with the Medal of Merit for service to Canadian youth.

He enjoyed travelling,  sports, fishing, gardening, woodworking, crafts, painting and spending time with family and friends.

By his request there will be no service, however his family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers those wishing to donate can send donations in memory of Wayne to a youth group of their choice.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com
