Donald ("Don") George Barr

March 15, 1940 - June 27, 2021

Tribute

The family of Donald George Barr of Fort Steele announce that Don has completed his final haying season. On June 27, 2021 at the age of 81, Don leaves us to go on to farm with family that has gone on before him.

Don was born in Cranbrook on March 15, 1940 to George and Isabella (Cameron) Barr. He was raised in Fort Steele and returned to live at the family farm upon retirement. Don worked for Cominco for 40 years and he and his wife Carroll raised their family (Lorna, Larry, and Ron Barr) in Kimberley, BC.

Don was predeceased by his wife Carroll Eidth (Howlette) Barr in 2002 and beloved daughter, Lorna Dawn Barr in 1994, sister Isabella Tuck, and parents Isabella (Isa) and George Barr.

Don’s roots are deep in Fort Steele with one grandfather, Harry Barr being a blacksmith at Fort Steele, and the other grandfather, David Cameron, farming at Fort Steele.

Don is survived by his sons Larry (Hozumi), Ron (Sally), loving wife Maryann Miller, Step Children: Dan Boyd, Cara (Royce) Lazar, Joel (Candice)Nielson, Caleb (Jodi) Nielson, and Matt (Kim) Nielso and 14 grandchildren

Don was proud of his accomplishments of obtaining a Millwright and Machinist Ticket.  Don was a proud member of the Masons for almost 60 years.

We know Don is driving a John Deere in green fields across the great divide and that he is waiting for us to join him in time.

Graveside service will be held at Fort Steele cemetery Wednesday July 7 at 10:30 am.  The family welcomes  everyone to come.

We are so sorry for the loss of Don. We knew him for approx. 20 years. He was always so obliging in letting us use the hay Field to run our dogs and do some tracking. Farwell Don we will miss you out on your tractor, and the special wave.

Relation: Neighbour

So sorry to hear about Donnie. I enjoyed our talks when I was passing the house and when he came up this way regarding something about the property that surrounds me. I always kept an eye out for trespassers and he would come up, for example when someone was cutting wood without permission.

My family new Don and Caroll for many years. My mom Patricia Gregoire was a great friend of Caroll’s mom Edith. I remember we were showing Don how to waltz for the wedding dance of him and Caroll! He was such a kind gentle person. He can now dance again with Caroll! Sending our love to the family!
