Tribute
In the evening hours of Sunday, March 1, 2015, Dianne Louine Haagsman passed away suddenly at home in Fort Steele, BC at the age of 65 years. Dianne was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Clifford and Betty Rathwell.
Dianne was a very spiritual lady and was a very generous and kind soul who loved those around her. She was always ready to serve and do whatever she could to help make somebody else’s load easier. Dianne’s grandchildren were the light of her life and were very dear to her heart. She loved thinking up fun activities for them to do on their visits with her. Dianne was an awesome cook, baker and she loved entertaining and cooking meals for her friends and family. She was a most gracious hostess. Her garden was always immaculate with beautiful flowers blooming. Dianne and her husband Jake enjoyed hiking the mountains, camping and she really enjoyed picking berries. She was a very talented homemaker and loved to sew and took many beautiful photographs that we will always cherish. Dianne was an avid reader and she never forgot about her quiet time and reading her bible each day. She was the rock of our family.
Dianne loved her career as a Postmaster. Her career took her to many different locations including Hudson’s Hope, Elkford, and Invermere. After retirement, Dianne and Jake moved to Fort Steele where she thoroughly enjoyed her new home.
Dianne leaves to cherish her memory her beloved soulmate and love of her life, husband Jake; and her children; Cameron Churchill (Nisha), Derek Churchill, Marcy Churchill and Curtis (Danyelle) Haagsman. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Cienna, Ashtyn, Quintin, Benjamin and Colin and one great grandchild, Azra. Dianne also leaves behind her mother, Betty Rathwell and two sisters; Wendy (Steve) Schnell and Adele Oak. Mourning her loss also are Jake’s family who always thought of their sister-in-law as their sister-in-love. She also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her father, Clifford Rathwell.

We will miss Dianne so so much! Those good times of walking the beaches in Mexico and getting attacked by cactus will be with us for life…and the great conversations and the warm hospitality when we’d land at your place, and the laughs and the love…arrrgg! It sure is good to know there’s a place and time when we will meet again…and it’s not at the “hotel, for coffee”…safe in the arms of Jesus!
