The family of Walter Abbey regret to announce his sudden passing on the morning of Sunday, September 7, 2025 Clarence “Walter” Abbey passed away at home in Cranbrook at the age of 89 years. Walter was born on August 8, 1936 in Fernie, BC to Clarence and Clarice Abbey. Walter was one of three sons born to them.
Walter had a life-long career at the mine in Kimberley. Walter was a true outdoorsman – he loved to hunt, fish and camp but also enjoyed a good round of golf. In his young years he was a bronc rider in the rodeo.
Walter leaves to mourn his passing three children: Wendy (Lowell) Skjonsby, Judy (Bruce) Mace and Don (Tania) Abbey. Also left are his six grandchildren; Tommy, Lindsay, Jason, Kevin, Jordan and Jenna and his 12 great grandchildren. Walter is also survived by one brother Arthur (Barbara) Abbey. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife Lorraine Abbey, his daughter Jacqueline Abbey and one brother Gerald Abbey.
