Christopher Neil Wood

June 8, 1951 - November 2, 2021

Tribute

Chris passed away at home after suffering with cancer and also having a stroke. He showed amazing strength and perseverance through it all.

He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the third of five children of Fred and Irene Wood. They moved to Alberta when he was a young child and settled in the Red Deer area. Chris was always passionate about cars, he bought and sold many over the years. He was part of a pit crew that raced funny cars and dragsters in the early 1970’s. He started working in an engine machine shop while still a teenager and it became his only career. He went on to own his own shop and loved building engines for anything from “Motorcycles to Caterpillars” as he would always say.

In 1975 he met Kim who was very impressed that he drove a Corvette! They were married in May of 1976. They had two children, Neil in 1980 and Heather in 1982. The family enjoyed camping, boating, golfing and sharing Chris’s love of water skiing. He was still loving it last year at the age of 69! He was always wanting to be at Lake Koocanusa, it was his “Happy Place”. Chris also enjoyed snow skiing with the family and started the kids on top of the hill at a very young age.

He will always be remembered as being very committed to whatever he was working on and never gave up. He always worked on the job until it was finished including rebuilding an engine with his granddaughter earlier this year.

Chris will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years Kim, son Neil Wood (Stacy), daughter Heather Davis (Pete), grandchildren Jaelyn and Rylan Wood and Kaylee, Alyssa, Dylan and Tyler Davis. Brother Dan Wood (Sheryle), sisters Linda Edgar, Karen Malsbury (Bob), Myrna Watson (Rory) and brother-in-law Gary Ebner (Barb), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no service at this time but we will have a Celebration Of Life for Chis in the summer of 2022.  In memory of Chris, the family would appreciate donations to be made to:  The Cranbrook Bucks Education Fund at info@cranbrookbucks.ca or The Canadian Cancer Society.
