Christina Dorothy Smith (Johnson)
December 25, 1936 - June 3, 2021
Tribute
It is with deepest regret for the family of Chris to announce her sudden departure.
Chris and Malcolm met in 1956 and were inseparable ever since. After immigrating to Canada from England in 1962 they moved to Kimberley and fell in love with the area where they lived a full and happy life together. Chris and Malcolm enjoyed hiking, backpacking and exploring the back roads and mountain tops. Their mutual love of nature and all the beauty so abundant in this area fulfilled their lives.
Chris was a very active volunteer, involved in Girl Guides, CGIT, Kimberley Public Library, Kimberley Golf Course, kindergarten classes and many more organizations in the community. Being a sports enthusiast, Chis, over the years, was an avid tennis player, golfer, badminton player, backpacker, downhill and cross-country skier, biker and runner. Travelling to New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Europe, Costa Rica, Cuba, Hawaii, the USA, across Canada and Mexico her life was full of memories and stories.
Chris passed away quickly on June 3, 2021. She is survived by her husband and three children who were with her at the time of her passing. She was the wife of Malcolm, a mother to Alison (Murray), Steven and Scott (Cherylynne), a grandmother of five and a great grandmother of four, a sister to Peter (Linda) Johnson and an aunt. She loved life, shared her joy with all and will be sadly and greatly missed by all who knew her.

I was so surprised to see the notice of Chris’s passing. Always a pleasure to meet and chat, she was a lovely person with an upbeat attitude and that lovely smile. Memories stretch back to our shared times when us immigrants were in the Company Apartments, Alison and our Bonnie playing in the sandbox. Malcolm, Alison, Steven and Scott and families .. I’m thinking of your loss and grieve a wee bit with you. Think of Chris’s bright cheery face, and go forward with a smile like that.

Dear Malcom and extended family, I was saddened to learn of your beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I arrived in Kimberley in 1977 as superintendent of schools. Malcom was a school trustee and soon we became teammates on the Gasthaus old-timers soccer team. Soon after I had the pleasure of meeting Chris. She was a jovial person whose smile always made me smile. As a fellow resident of Meadowbrook, I would often wave to her as she walked, while I drove to town, always with admiration for her desire to keep fit. I will miss those encounters that inspired me to pursue a healthier lifestyle. I can only imagine how much you will miss her inspiration. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
