Tribute
Cheryl Elaine Cameron of Creston, BC, passed away on September 18, 2025, at the F.W. Green Home in Cranbrook after a short, hard-fought battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, Cheryl maintained a positive and tenacious attitude that inspired all those around her.
Cheryl is survived by her daughters Riley Wilcox (husband Ted) and Liz Wilcox (husband Keith), as well as her two grandchildren, Ryan and Jessica. She was predeceased by her mother Betty Cameron, father George Cameron, and brother Craig Cameron.
Cheryl led a life less ordinary, never letting the grass grow beneath her feet before setting off on her next adventure. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, she moved to Toronto—home of her beloved Maple Leafs—at a young age. Not long after, she answered the call of the West and headed out to BC and the Yukon, where she married and had her daughters. She raised her family to be independent, strong, kind, and appreciative of all the wonderful people in their lives—just as she was.
Cheryl loved music, animals, concerts, and the outdoors, and she passed that love on to her grandchildren, Ryan and Jessica. She enjoyed volunteering at food banks, thrift stores, and the Canadian Red Cross Loan Cupboard.
Being a grandmother was her favorite job of all—and lovingly tormenting both of her sons-in-law came in at a close second. Cheryl retired from Safety Mart Foods in Ashcroft and settled in Creston, a town that held a very special place in her heart.
Cheryl’s friends were as close as family—Rose, Lene, Bonnie, Eszter, and Darlene. Her dear friend Lene shared these beautiful words:
“Those who knew Cheryl as I did for 20 years knew that if you were in a dark space, all you had to do was wait for Cheryl to walk into the room, and the room would be flooded with light. That’s the type of person she was—always smiling, always ready for a laugh.
If you phoned her at midnight needing help, she was there. If you needed a hand with anything, she was there. If you needed to laugh until your stomach hurt, she was there. My friend never turned her back on me, ever, and gave me a kick in the ass when I needed it. She lifted me up and stood next to me when I needed her there. That was the type of friend and person Cheryl Cameron was.”
The family would like to thank Dr. Jordan, Dr. White, and the Cranbrook Oncology team. A special thank-you also goes to the kind staff at the F.W. Green Home for providing Cheryl with such comforting and compassionate care in her final days.
As per Cheryl’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of Children Society: https://www.friendsofchildren.ca/support/donate
