Tribute

WELK, Agnes Marie Louisa

1926 – 2011

Agnes Welk passed away at her home in Cranbrook on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the age of 84 years. She was born in Findlay, Manitoba on October 14, 1926 to Rene and Marie Bauche.

Agnes moved to Kimberley in 1959 and on to Cranbrook in 1989. Mom was enormously independent. She could change the oil in her car and then come in and bake the best pumpkin pies. She loved cake decorating and putting up her theme Christmas trees each year. Mom had a wonderful sense of humour and a quick smile. She gave us sound, objective and impartial advice. The legacy she left for us is the high value she placed in fairness and honesty.

Agnes leaves behind one son; Matt and three daughters; Audrey (Garry), Virginia (Dave), and Charlotte (Tom) as well as her two grandchildren; Parker and Olivia. She also leaves her brother Gilles and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Rene and Marie; her sister, Therese and brother Eloi.

The family would like to thank the very caring and compassionate doctors, nurses and caregivers in our health care system and particularly Dr. Solcova, Val, Sue and Juli from Home Care Nursing and all the ladies at the hospital lab. Mom appreciated all of your kindnesses.

A private family interment will be held at a later date. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, British Columbia Branch Office, #200 – 4940 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 4K6

Audrey, Matt, Charlotte and Virgina,
So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I know your mom will always be in your hearts. She was a great lady and I can still see her getting us all up on water skiis for the first time. Time spent at your cabin was truly a wonderful way to pass away the summer holidays. Then there were the days in the winter – roasting chestnuts on the fire and skidoing on the lake. Hold her memory close as I know she is holding you all close. Take Care and Blessing to all of you.
Take Care, Darlene, Keith, Emilee, Erin and Janelle

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I visited with Agnes in the fall and I’m so glad I did. She was such a “cool” lady and I have many fond memories of evenings and weekends spent at the Welk home as well as Wasa Lake. Thinking of you, Ellen Schacher.
